-->You ask around. You learn about the tension between the mages college and the king. The mages college feels vastly underfunded. The dominant faith is monotheistic and currently it has a growing number of religions popping up to oppose it. They call their god “Bok” which is the Bokuran god. Many converted to the Bokuran faith when they came to New Dunland, but it has been vastly bastardized since then. While giving your speech in the market, you see a new church being built, and it certainly isn’t a Bokuran church. Since you’re just getting your start. You have failed to find any good, reliable sources, but you do waste quite a bit of money trying to find some. -15 Dunts
--> You give your speech in the marketplace, and many gather around to listen, but many also just pass you by. To many, your message sounds familiar. Speaking out about the poor. Most of the poor amongst your listeners find it difficult to believe you care about them. You are visibly wealthier than they are, and they feel mostly like your promises are largely empty. The language of speaking of the working class as “you” and then Bokurans as “our” perhaps made them feel alienated. However, many of the middle-class listeners do enjoy your message. Your speech is well executed given that this is one of your first speeches. You also notice that you are not the only one on a soap box in the marketplace. Many of your listeners pass between you and the other preachers. Your presence is commanding, but not inescapable. Regardless of the many faults of your speech, many clap when you step down from your box, and hundreds become aware of your political presence throughout the day. + Awareness
--> As you step down from your box, it occurs to you how terribly hot it is for a day in April. You are a little dazed, tired, and dehydrated. You have been staring into the setting sun for some time now. Your only reprieve is the pleasant sound of your audience’s clapping. You begin to hear one clap approach you.
You shield your eyes from the sun to see a rather large man approaching you. “Well said! Deldan is it?”
You’re startled by this and stumble for words, and your mouth is dry. You manage a simple “Mhm”
The man responds, “Well Deldan, I imagine you are quite new to this. You have no protection and you have clearly pushed your body to its limit. It’s clear you are avoiding speaking about more controversial issues. I can understand. Without protection, who would?”
Deldan having now found his breath responds “Is it that obvious?”
The man says “For a trained ear like mine? It is. To the rest of them? You sound like you're talking out your ass. It really is too bad, you have a lot of good things to say and you could’ve said em all today if I’d met you sooner.”
“Who are you?” You inquire.
“David Steele. I think we can help each other.”
David offers to help you for 10 Dunts per week, and recommends you hire some security for 5 Dunts per week. I’m assuming you accept. I mean after all, he kinda looks like this:
