That's everyone, but as is increasingly the case I'm out of town until Sunday. Does Monk or someone want to process this season?

This season is an exciting season, so of course I do.

Should be good now Peradon.
Yup. Looks good...

Irrigate 24|37

Yeah, I chose a really bad starting spot...

The Irrigate action is used to turn Deserts into Plains. As you're referring to a river line, did you mean Channel or Drain? Because if you are planning to expand into that lake in Summer you don't need to get rid of the rivers first; there is no penalty for expanding across a river, only conquering, so you just need to pay 1 + Tile Defense (so 2 total actions to expand into a Lake.)

This observation may also be of interest to Toaster depending on whether his river draining was done in anticipation of expansion or as part of a defense strategy.

EDIT: Also, Toaster, 7 has a city so you can't grow a field there unless you have the Poult racial ability (or the ability to steal it as cerapa has done)

EDIT2: Also also, we seem to lack a turn from Urist Arrhenius, so I'll tap on his shoulder.

Builders can't tower onto a lake, so it's gotta go.  Also, the growing is done on the understanding that it will remove the city.  If I have to dismantle it first, I have the spare action for it.

Actually, I was under the impression that "land tile" simply meant "non-ocean." For instance, Victory Points are awarded to "land" tiles, and I know last game the lakes were worth VP same as any other non-ocean tile, so if they count as land for VP I don't see why they wouldn't for Towers.

That said, I'm also under the impression that you'd have to use a Dismantle action before you could grow there, and the growing wouldn't just override the city.

I'll defer to nqt on both, but that's how I read the rules.

That'd make a big difference to the turn, because I'd be building a city there instead of fiddling with rivers.

Towering is allowed on lakes: they're counted as land tiles. I should make that clearer in future.

Otherwise Aquatics would be kinda screwed, since Lakes are their Favored Terrain.

Well, the argument could be made that if land tiles don't include lakes, Aquatics could still build there because the Improve action doesn't use the word land, it just says "favored terrain." Mostly it would make Builders suck since it just means they can build on Forests or Mountains once per applicable season when they could have taken Bountiful or Shakers to give up the versatility in exchange for quantity of cities, which you would think would be the point of Builders. (I think Builders could use a slight buff since the pop growth changes, but I'm holding those thoughts until we all can see how things shake out.)

So yeah, obviously Toaster is going to want to reconsider his Spring and we haven't heard from Urist Arrhenius yet, so don't expect an update from me until Sunday evening/Monday morning.

You and I have very different ideas on how to use the Builders well, Monk. :P

We'll see what can be done with cities.
