Ulgurk sighs, it doesn't appear he will get what he wants without explaining. "John here and myself signed up to do some work for the Department of Menace Eradication. I dunno why 'e signed up, but I did because I reckoned there'd be some Rats I could murder but we've been told to investigate Mrs. Plenty's Carnvial. It appears to have been suffering from some strange attacks." He looks up here suspiciously, "Like you just mentioned... Anyway we need to find this Baker fella to see if there's any connection between him and the attacks the Carnival has been suffering. Anyway do ya know something or not?"

Kate rubs her chin for a second, weighing her options. After a moment, she smirks, running over to the urchin's line, tugging on it, and turning on her best "Street-Kid-Cockney."
"Oi, guv'! Give ya a coppa ta catch a coppa, 'ey?" She shouts to the child, gesturing to the constable. She felt she was fairly familiar with the slang the street urchins used, having used them as informants and message-runners many times before. Sometimes it was jokingly called "The King's English," in reference, of course, to the Fisher-King.

John gives a shrug.
That's pretty much everything to be said.

He keeps a suspicious eye on the Blackguard, though, just in case his feet prove more mobile than his lips.

Josephine squinted to ensure her vision was right. Those were CHILDREN! Children in an otherwise disdainful and poverty-filled plight!
She was used to seeing such sights back on the surface, though obviously reluctant in not lending them aid, but this was different--those were children up high near the roofs and pretty much not looking poverty stricken!

Oh goodness this is organized crime. BY THE YOUTH!

"Excuse me, children! Children! Please hand us back my friend's hat! He needs it for a most formal speech!"

Err, Persuade! (or...what's the term >_<)
...Try to invoke Personal Trouble (wondering how to do this for a fate point? :P )

"Aye, chaps, if it's not much bother, I'm sure we could come to an arrangement?"

Sir Charles Groovington joins Josephine's plea to get the hat back, hoping that they could accomplish more via teamwork.

((Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I'm assuming Jonathan went with Josephine and Charles.))
Pendle stepped out of the fog, a wary eye keeping watch for pickpockets. Noticing his compatriots, he traced their gaze and spotted the hat dancing fitfully in the haze. Pulling his own hat tightly down, and keeping watch for any other fishing hooks, he approached his companions.

"We'll be through our collective lives' savings before we can get it back through mercantile means. A dear shame I don't know my way around the Flit. We'd be able to use more fruitful--and forceful--methods if we could reach the orphan.

Oh well. Shall we continue our search? "

Not even waiting for a response, Pendle turned and began down the street.

GM Post

Josephine Baptiste

Josephine, being a naive Surface human, attempts to use reason with a band of superstitious urchins who steal hats and souls for a living. Of course, there isn't much mutual trust, because as far as Josephine knows these kids are an eery lot.

[Neathy-Supertitious invoked]

Josephine's Rapport - Create Advantage roll: ( )(-)(-)(+) - 2 + 2 = -1 (Poor) VS 4 (Great) = Failure

The urchins just smirked to her pleas. They don't seem to be intending on giving the hat back.

Charles Groovington

Charles hoped that the urchins' grins doesn't mean that they don't intend to give back his hat, so he tries to sweet-talk them into dropping it.

Charles's Rapport - Overcome roll: (+)(-)(-)(+) + 4 (Great) = 4 (Great) VS 4 (Great) = Tie

"Guv', this hat be ours n-"

"There, there, there's no need for that. This gentleman and the lady do not appear to be used to our customs here. Better cut them some slack, yes?" A boy who did not appear to be with the group earlier spoke up with an exaggerated aristocratic air. He wore an eyepatch on his right eye, although it might just be fake. The urchin holding the rod passed the rod to him with a grumble. He lowered down the hat, but as Charles went to retrieve it the hat is suddenly yanked up to the air again, to the urchins' uproar.

"Oh, I must mention, we do need some help here, especially from somebody new. Surely this favor is worth repaying later? Ask for the Fisher-Kings."

The hat is returned without fuss, this time, but the One-Eyed Urchin seemed to really think returning a stolen item is worth a favor. Or maybe he's desperate.

Jonathan Pendle

The two caught up to Pendle as they reached a lodging. Jonathan Pendle has just been accosted by the landlady.

"No! For the fifth time, I will not leave message for him!" she then quite rudely slams the door shut. Well, at least that suggest it's Baker's residence all right.

Ulgurk and John

The Quickdraw Blackguard let out a rare, quiet chuckle. "As tight-lipped as ever, aren't you? Well then, you're in position to pay my price, but I'll give you some background first on this Wilhelm Baker.

From what I have gathered, Baker came here from the Surface as a Dock-worker. A nobody. Then he got mixed up with the ___ Club. That's right, the" a pause. "Club. Nobody knows what they do exactly but everyone sure knows about their members. The list is too long to talk about, but let's just say all of them are in Mr. Slowcake's Exceptionals. Except Baker. Man had a falling-out with them and had been going around causing trouble to them and London in general ever since. "

"Now, my price is simple, and the benefit should be mutual. I want some more dirt on the ___ Club. That secret is worth a lot of money, I'll bet. You are going to Mrs. Plenty's Carnival, where Baker and the club members went 'missing', but they're up to something, I can tell you that."

Josephine glanced at Charles, before turning to him with mixed confusion after a few seconds of his being reunited with Mr. Hat.

"While I disagree with theft, there's always a root cause to such crimes. Do you think we can put on hold that search and help these kids? It would be nice to...well, meet fishermen-kings, in my opinion. But we also have a job to do."

"Of course we should, my dear Josephine!" replies Groovington as he almost puts his hat back on, then thinks it over and holds it off to the side. "I don't begrudge the little rascals, they did return my lovely hat, which has been in my family for generations! Well, technically, more than one generation anyway! Well, almost more than one, regardless... well, to be honest I'm not even sure how it came to my possession..."

He trails off, then remembers what they were chatting about. "Either way, it can't hurt to meet more people, and worse case, we get to see more random people to grill about the case."

Pendle approached his comrades, interjecting into their conversation.
"Good news. I think I may have the home of our dear friend Baker," briefly gesturing at the building he just came from. "The unfortunate bit is that I don't know which room he occupies, and I don't think the landlady cares for me so much any more.
He seems the secretive type; I doubt we can wait for him to arrive home and just ask some questions. Perhaps laying a trap is in order? If we could distract the landlady, we could try to find some documents denoting in which building he lives, and wait in ambush there.

Charles, you seem a charming sort. Would you care to serve as a distraction?"

How is the building laid out? More specifically, does it have a lobby?

GM Post 2

Kate tugged on the Fisher-King's line, flashing a copper coin to the urchin girl. She doesn't seem to be interested, so a brief period of silent haggling ensued.

Kate's Resource - Overcome Roll ( )( )(-)(-) + 3 VS 4: Failure!

The urchin girl still appeared unwilling to cross the Constable, and time is running short as the Constable-on-Velocipede is starting to realize Lenny the NOse isn't hidden anywhere close and is about to take off. The urchin girl suddenly had a change of mind and with a skillful flick of the rod the hook met the Constable's collar in the same time as he takes off. The effect is that he is yanked quickly off the velocipede, with the girl disengaging the hook before she is dragged off the roof with his weight. She studied Kate's face and shouted "Sorry, miz! Ah need something better later!", with that said, she scampered off.

Burbon begins to grumble. Oh good, he isn't dead. It's probably a good time for Kate and Conall to flee.

Charles and Josephine
((Making a header to differentiate for GM ease))
"Alright, lets help these little rascals!...Erm, that was a joke, sir. Excuse my unpleasantry."

She turned towards where she thought the one-eyed urchin was.

"We'll help. We're just on another errand at the moment, but if you can orient us any which way-...that'd be great!"
