I really hate how mages are implemented in pretty much all fantasy games. What they are is essentially a different flavor of a warrior
Toady has stated he dislikes "factory magic", i.e. "oh this is a +2 fire-brand longsword".

What I see is that whenever Toady code a finger, he manage to code the entire arm behind. As always, his ability to create simple frameworks that is reused everywhere is amazing.

I mean, we only started with bands of traveling poets and now we have "everything that can be learnt, taught, written down".
Account for the modders. Toady decides vampire fangs will elongate when they're going in for the bite - which players will never notice but screw visible results, Toady makes it happen. From that framework, modders came up with sex-change potions.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

While the possibilities are limitless, there is one thing I'd really like to see that I don't think is overly ambitious: Dwarves should be able to study. When my medical Dwarves aren't cutting folks up, they should be in the library, growing their skill or at least preventing it from rusting.

All of this, please. A way to combat skill rust would be very much appreciated. My medical dwarfs are always the first to rust.

This whole knowledge/philosophy thing fills me with so much anticipation, just because of its potential for lulz.

We have seen gods unleash hordes of clowns onto the world after they have contemplated the meaning of fish.
I am looking forward to the day we see a dwarf philosopher turn into a nihilistic necromancer as a result of the last 3 generations of his people contemplating the inevitability of plump helmets.

Demons are preferable to ravens.
A noble just suffered a genuine unfortunate accident.
Has that ever happened before?

I am looking forward to the day we see a dwarf philosopher turn into a nihilistic necromancer as a result of the last 3 generations of his people contemplating the inevitability of plump helmets.

Code: [Select]
Urist McBadCook - "Today I cooked the plump helmet with (+Frying Pan+) in Tombspaved."
Urist McGoodBrewer - "It is sad, but not unexpected."
Urist McBadCook - "It was inevitable."
Urist McGoodBrewer - "It was inevitable."
Urist McHaulerPassingBy - "It was inevitable."

Urist McHaulerPassingBy - "Did you hear, on 12th Felsite 251, Urist McBadCook ruined the !!plump helmet!! with (+Frying Pan+) in
Tombspaved, he has destroyed 200 plump helmets in his time."
Urist McOtherHauler - "It must be stopped with violent force."
Urist McHaulerPassingBy - "It was inevitable."

If this sort of thing happened, I don't think I'd ever be able to leave Dwarf Fortress ever.

EDIT: fixed the "code" box so that it doesn't need scrolling to see my silly ramblings.

If you've got dwarf problems, I feel bad for you, son.
I've got 99 whales because I killed Urist with one.
