Indeed, for the Guardians, nothing was ever truly easy, for their job was the most important and difficult job in the universe.  It was their job to fight against the forces that would destroy and pillage their universe and maintain a delicate balance between the forces inside of it.  Yet they go about this task with seemingly endless vigor, reveling in the onerous task they have taken upon themselves.  Indeed, some would say that the Guardians lost all traces of morality long ago, and merely serve and defenders for the known universe.

I was just running a few possibilities though my head and I decided to share them.

Based on the flavor text, it appears that there are two town teams. Nobody knows if the avengers or the guardians were the ones that killed what's-his-face. I was thinking that it is probable that both the avengers and the guardians "think" that there are town, but one or two members of each team who are scum together. The town would be so preoccupied killing each other that the mafia should have a pretty easy time early on, so I am expecting at the absolute max 4 scum.

Another possibility is that both teams are town, and there is one third part serial killer who is the one that killed what's-his-face. This would imply that there is no mafia, but the whole town would think that the other team (avengers or guardians) are the scum and give the SK an easy ride.

(on an unrelated note, everything on this forum is bold and italicized to me. How do I fix it?)

I think if there are two towns, one is either larger than the other, or there is a scum team or third party to even those numbers.

I think it's more likely there's one town and a nonstandard scum team; maybe a cult, or ANOTHER team of SKs, or a pair of JOATs. There could be two towns AND one of these possibilities, but flavor I got when asking by PM suggests the Avenger team and the Gaurdian team is all there is, which suggests there is no thirds other than the Avenger side.

Yeah, after re-reading the OP, I do think that avengers and guardians are the only "factions". HOWEVER I am pretty sure that each team will have scum on them who appear to be part of that faction, but have their own wincon that most likely does not involve their faction. My wincon does not require me to get rid of the other faction which leads me to believe that the danger is within both factions.

Still just keep voting for scummy people. But don't lynch someone just because they are on a different team than you.

To test my theory, would anybody like to do a mass faction claim?

Wouldnt it be easy for any scum or 3rd party just to say that they are Avengers or Protectors? I dont think a Mass-claim will solve anything.

Mass claiming would be helpful if everyone was truthful about their faction, which we are nearly guaranteed that they won't be.

Everyone: What is your experience with bastard games?
I think the only other true bastard I played was M E I N K A M P F. A few semi-bastards, though.

Everyone: Do you believe this game has a third-party scum group, or is it just Protectors vs Avengers?
I think quite a few of the theories that were mentioned could be true. Actual scum, traitors in either faction, third parties, two factions killing each other (protectors versus avengers) or all of those things.

Deathsword Are you scum? If not, what is the hardest scumtell to hide?
No, I'm not. As for the scumtell, getting caught on a lie is the worst that can happen to scum.

Deathsword: I doubt there's a true scum here, so which side do you think killed Rhaken?
Don't know. Until we do something major (lynch, for example, but not necessarily) and interpret the flavour from that, I doubt we will get any clues.

Also, I think it's curious that 4maskwolf posted flavour after Dani's posts, and somewhat matching what they said. Dani, could you try posting various thing, to see if that keeps up?

origamiscieneguy Do you, personally, think the protectors are right or the avengers?
I've played to much dwarf fortress to hide and let threats go away. I personally think that the avengers have the right idea.

Deathsword, I think that was because he asked the GM a question.

For example, I'm sure 4mask would respond if I asked him a question. However, it will only be cryptic flavor text. Probably being along the lines of And nobody stood between the divide but the fallen Rahken, and 4maskwolf brandishing his flaming blade.

4mask What is an Arbitrator, and is there any possibility of other neutral roles?

Mass claiming would be helpful if everyone was truthful about their faction, which we are nearly guaranteed that they won't be.
Yeah... it seems unlikely that anyone would claim truthfully, especially if more Protectors claimed early on than Avengers or vice-versa.

Sorry for the double post, but I accidentally hit post, and I want to avoid editing.

As I was saying, I think lurkers should be a low-priority lynch, only lynched if there are no better targets. I think of day 1 lurkers as people who answer questions, but ask significantly less questions than they answer, and try to avoid voting or getting involved in the lynch. They should be called out, but not lynched. Also, a side note, I don't think lynching a "day 1" lurker day 1 is a good idea. It's too hard to tell if someone is lurking or just doesn't have time.

Peradon What do you believe the bastard-nature of this game is? Alternatively, how much do you want to survive to the end of the game?
To tell you the truth, based on the flavor, I think its going to be town vs town, with each side having one Vigilante.

Just a theory though.

was that a claim? lol.
