Night troll, anyone?

Everything else you said SAD is completely invalid anyhow...

Interesting.
Your whole hassle with the bogeymen (as you stated) is that you don't want to have a big group running around with you.
I gave you some examples to counter them without having a big group running around with you.
And yet you still claim you have to have a big group running around with you.
Reading a comment doesn't just involve moving your eyes across the screen but understanding (and trying) what the words actually mean in said context.
Again, night troll, anyone?

No matter what you say it just boils down to this

The game would be more fun without boogeymen.

For you.
Not for me.
Not for everyone else.
So, you aren't stating a fact.
You just give your own opinion by negating to deal with them in the game's own parameters.
For all of my adventurers (and I always start as peasant) bogeymen aren't a problem anymore cause I learned to deal with them.
As I learned to deal with all other creatures.
The first time I played my char was killed by a hen.
So what. Removing all hens?

I am curious if the next comment by you actually won't scream right across the forum:
"I'm just bitching because, you know...troll."
Therefore:
Did you ever tried wandering alone and using the game mechanics to deal with bogeymen?

Basically, perhaps a 'prevalence' scale rather than on/off. I'd like them to be a chance encounter rather than a constant, looming threat.

In my current run the first ambush occurred at the 10th night (without sleeping in safe areas).
Therefore it's based on chance while still being a constant threat.
I like it because it's like the constant threat of a monster under the bed but did it ever get you as you were young? Apparently, no. But if you had ever left your foot outside your bedspread maybe it would have had you.
Who knows...

Wat?

Caves default to being invisible, lairs are always hidden until you find them or bump into them.

Also: SERIOUSLY?

"Turning bogeymen off is a pain and I shouldn't have to do it."
'Maybe sleep in lairs or something?'
"Make sure you turn cave visibility on."

While bogeymen attacks do seem really sporadic and random, 1 companion can be quite fun to have around, so you try to defend them, form a relationship with them, make them happy, etc, it can make the stories quite beautiful.

Am not sure how bogeymen attacks are gen'd. I have sheltered in hamlets + resorts, which works some of th time evn if I'm just on the outskirts.

Seems to depend on world really, but can get long chains of no-attack nights.

Dude, I always sleep in lairs. The only reason I adventure is to kill beasts, so I usually know where lairs, shrines etc. are.

I'm talking about how you have to set cave visibility on in world-gen, but setting bogeymen to off is a problem?

okay looks like I miss a disscussion or two after.

Bogeymen kinda function as a new mechanic in adventure mode and in modding.
like the stuff they do is gives modders another moddable spawn point. like dang toady one made the token for bogeymen useable in Entities and Civs now yet not a single mod I seen try to create a civ of creatures that will vanish if you enter the cackling in their area.
So one could write a total conversion that dips into bogeymen or make an adventurer bogey-like creature race.
...who would suffer worst than a normal vanilla player as cackling would kill them instantly if they end it and the only good reason to do this is to set up as an huge drawback to a buff op race.

that alone is why I enjoy having bogeymen around. the potential of something greater in customization.
well that and solving bogeyman related rumors.
don't dwarves have cave adaptation where if they hang out in caves to long they get dizzy and sick on the surface?

It was a joke about how circular the logic behind Boogeymen are.

I am mostly done with this line of discussion though due to... well... I am a little tired of verbal beat downs right now. Not that you have done that Max, you have been quite pleasant.
