Continue work on everything and do nothing else. This isn't to say we should force them to stop building shacks, just that we won't give any exploration orders or anything.

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

You still need to give orders according to the rules.

Right, forgot about the rules. Any chance of changing the name to Caruva? Sounds more Spanish.

May as well get some production on it so they will hopefully focus on doing more work... also we may want to do something about all that nothing we have in food stores

Our food is on our ship.

Also note that we always have housing: 0, as well as other jobs. 0 means no public resources will be put towards it. It just happens that the more wealthy ones decided that the slaves should build homes for them in their non-regulated (i.e. spare) time.

GM note: Retconning in the animals. Please refer to turn for details.

Done deal.

Week 1, June, Calm Sunny Days

"Sorry to interrupt, Don Tonio. I thought last week you were fuming on people building their houses..."

That insolent. Garcia. The Imperial commissioner, or better say the watchdog nominated by the emperor. Always find a way to talk talk talk talk and talk.

"Yes, Don Garcia. I guess you were asking about my new orders to let them actually build houses, right? Now, you see. The rich only wanted to build house for themselves. We are building lodging for everyone here! Sooner or later, all of us will live on dry land." You symbolically stamped on not-that-dry-swampy-ex-forest-topsoil. "It seems you have a habit of questioning every one of my decisions here..."

"According to imperial edict number 897-2896, its 14 amendments, 10 addenums, and of course the letter of patent, I have the duty to record as detailed as practical your commands given, because, you see, I have a contractual duty here to protect this place from lawsuits, such as misunderstood commands, ambiguous words, or challenging if you are acting in good conscience. I have a hard job to do."

Now you threaten me with law.

The empire excels at two things. One is of course killing other races. The other is its meticulous, almost absurdly verbose and detailed laws. This arose from the need to regulate newly conquered lands, determine ownership, prevent unfair exploitation of other humans, and make sure that non-humans are unfairly exploited. Over time it grew into an inmeasurable mess, containing tens of thousands of edicts which only learned men like Garcia can make any sense out of it.

At least we need to stick with him.

You heard some rustle. A bit too loud perhaps.

Work done on Week 4, May
Total Building capacity you can control this month: 120 (Arbitrary unit, not arbitrary number.)
Allocated on Docks: 60
Allocated on Pens: 40
Allocated on Housing: 20

Work was done on the docks extremely smoothly. It seems the sunken pillars syndrome has been solved by actually not trying to counteract the forces, but rather focus on building pontoons safe enough to unload on. Emanuel defends that we can build stone pillars as an anchor, to make it an actual pier later.

Docks finished, though is currently a glorified line of pontoons. You can improve it later.

Likewise, the main pen structure has been erected up. It is a wooden/grass/leaves top, supported by some strong pillars made out of local wood. Only half of the structure is built, but this does not stop some of your colonists to move their belongings down there and use this as a temporary dwelling.

Animal Pen 50% built, and functional.

Perhaps fueled by the lack of actual housing, the gangs were somehow too enthusiastic for it: They focused on quantity over quality, and by the end of the week,  A-shaped wooden shacks equivalent to 40 poor housing units were rushed. Colonists flock over there as it was even worse on board. Emanuel estimated that these huts might not withstand an imperial winter, and to upgraded them to imperial continental standards they will need as much work as erecting them.

40 Poor housing units built, poor build quality.

In the "free time", your colonists managed another 2 units of adequate housing. Another 1 or 2 broke ground.

2 adequate housing units built.

Event.

By the end of the week, you received a petition.

Dear Lord,

We, the explorers of Karuva, are bored of building all day long. We beg you to authorize an expedition so we can more clearly understand this part of the empire. We offer to either go to the mountains, or to explore the unnaturally cut part of the forest.

Please note that Garcia tipped that technically not allowing expedition be sent, according to some imperial edict and the letters patent of this colony, might involve his intervention.

Your consideration is highly appreciated.

In service,

And a list of names.

Reply: As all critical constructions - namely the pier and some housing - has been completed, special measures will no longer need to be taken and you will be sent on jobs befitting of your profession.

Interlude.

One of the explorers came up.

"Your honor," he said, "I understood that you will allow expeditions again. You see, both the mountain and the clearings are the most interesting part on this island. We would you to authorize and organize an expedition to either location, and perhaps you can come and lead us to glory."
