Sadly, I do not have a working mic hooked up.  And furious ranting just isn't the same when it's written out in the chat field.

It's weird, less than an hour ago we were all having a heated debate, and now we're all singing Kum-Ba-Ya and laughing at Counter-Strike players.

I think it's because none of us wants to disagree so strongly with each other.  Since the current issue cannot be resolved one way or the other, we're just changing the subject.

Truce?

Good enough.

Now, CS:S...  I normally don't play CS:S, mainly because I don't find it to be that interesting.  If I want a realistic shooter, I'll just play Insurgency.  If I want teamwork (ha ha ha), I'll play Zombie Master.  If I want assholes, I'll go to a porn site.

Sooo...  I never really figured out the attraction.

Insurgency crashes too much and the hitboxes are screwed up on zombie master.  Dystopia's okay, that Revolutionary War game is pretty neat, I accidentally got Half Life: Source so I can't play NS or anything like that.  I'm going on Steam to see what mods I have.

I didn't like Age of Chivalry very much, same with PVK, Eternal Silence would own if people played it, The Hidden is epic, I don't see the point in paying ten dollars to screw around with physics so Garry's out, I couldn't get in to Empires, Iron Grip has a cool concept, but it's too glitchy to be good, Zombie Panic! is cool when I feel like playing which isn't often, and that's all I really play, mod-wise.  Does anyone know of any good HL2 mods?

lol wut, ES suddenly got popular.

Fistful of Frags is fun if you want to try your hand at the Wild West.  It's not bad, but there are some elements that could use a god tweaking...  For example, the ability to snipe with a shotgun.

I used to fancy myself a pretty good dynamite-tosser.  Timing the fuse (which you can't see) just right so that it blows up three inches from your target's nose is so damned satisfying.  But then the people who couldn't do it complained, so now there's a 1-3 second "fudge" on the fuse so you can't time it the same way anymore.

I haven't actually played the new version yet...  There's a new whiskey bottle so you can heal other players (but not yourself), and I don't know how that works yet.

Empires is great fun if you happen to be on a good server.  If you're not, it's junk.  You just need a fast server with a lot of people on it and at least one guy on each side who actually knows what he's doing.  The rest need to be able to listen.

In Empires, that's actually not that big of an order.  Sure, it's harder than finding a "normal" server, but it's still there.

Age of Chivalry has problems...  Lots of problems.  PVKII would be alright if it weren't for the horrid player base (the "warm welcome" thread was talking about the PVKII forums).

I could never get Iron Grip to work properly...  The music was always turned up to an ear-killing level, and I couldn't figure out how to tone it down.

If you want a nice twist on HL2, check out SMOD: Tactical.  It's a mod of a mod (SMOD), and it has some really neat features.  It's singleplayer only, however.  But it is entirely possible to spawn a friendly strike team member to die for you.  You can even bind it to a key.

Gmod 10 costs money, but Gmod 9 does not.  Gmod 9 is wonderful, but hideously buggy.  It does, however, boast a huge number of really cool special scripted multiplayer levels, including one where you fly around in crate airplanes and shoot rockets and flaming sawblades at each other (TopGun).

There are also some cool mods that died out a long time ago, including "Gutter Runners", a mod based on the Skaven of Warhammer fantasy.  There aren't any servers left, which is a real shame...  That game had some seriously cool stuff.

Lemme see...  There's Jailbreak, which doesn't add any new weapons, but has some interesting gameplay elements.  Obsidian Conflict which nobody plays but has some neat levels (Star Wars battlecruiser and fishing), the other co-op mods that I don't know anything about, and then this one mod that I heard about recently called "Ballmen".  It has the unusual aspect of being able to walk on walls and ceilings, but looks a bit bland otherwise.

There are also a ton of other mods out there that I haven't tried.  I've been out of the loop for a while.

The hitboxes may be off (shoot at the feet!  Shoot at the knees!  Shoot above the head!), but I like Zombie Master.  It's far less competitive than other games, and it has some textbook examples of "losing is fun".  Nothing quite like walking directly under the already-falling cargo container, or getting blown into the sky by the exploding trash can.

I had a guy freaking out on me in the Shawn of the Dead level with that car trap.

That level was a lot of fun, except stupid people wouldn't open the hotel door, I had to kill one of those giant zombies with a sledgehammer.  I had like 10hp as it was coming up to me, and I was screaming(over the chat screen) for them to open the door, thankfully it only took one hit.

Also, where do I find Gmod 9?

Apparently you need CSS to play Smod, which sucks.

Yeah, but don't you get CSS for free along with HL2?  I only bought HL2, and I've got CSS.

Shaun of the Dead level?  I've never played that one...  Sounds fun.  I remember playing the AIR map and trying to get people to do what they were supposed to do and GET INSIDE BEFORE THE GAS IS RELEASED.

You can pluck Gmod 9 from the archives tha Garry has on his site.  He acts like it's a hall of shame for only the cheapest to dig through in search of his earlier versions...  But it's still up.  I think the latest pre-10 version was 9.0.3 or something like that...

Here you go: http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_2_Garrys_Mod;50929

9.0.4, the last pre-10 release.  Grows increasingly more buggy the longer you play it, but you can "reset" that by restarting Gmod.

If you ever see a HL2 comic (like 'Concerned'), it's made with Gmod.

I've only seen Full Life Consequences.  I lol'd for like a month.

Hmm, it says no content servers are available, that's what it did with Gmod 8 too.
