No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

To be fair, they're probably sending invites out in waves.  ^_____^

Jingles did his usual review back in Alpha and it was looking very, very promising. At the very least it's not going to be as shitty as WoWP, even if you're the most cynical person in the world.

Funniest part is WG-EU failed as always and had signups possible for a total of almost two hours.

I found it fun so far, but I really wished that they had learned from the problems Arty causes in WoT, instead they made the problem worse with the carriers.

Some of them easily outrun Destroyers, making it impossible to catch them. Even if you reach the same speed as a carrier, you won't be able to close the distance since you will have to dodge his torpedo planes while he can just go in a straight line.

They don't need any assistance in spotting, on the contrary most of the spotting will be done by them.

Even if you manage to catch them, they will just send their planes at you. And if they are a competent player (of which there aren't many so far, but that will change at some point) player, even a destroyer won't be able to dodge their torpedo salvoes.

I personally managed to get in on Thursday and after somewhat extensive testing(Up to tier 4 in at least two branches), I approve of almost everything about it.

Divided into two parts, the gameplay and the progress metagame, the gameplay is almost perfect. The metagame seems unfinished, but as long as they continue on this path and don't add too much unnecessary trash it should be just fine. I expect the progression to be a lot slower in the final release though. It's obviously sped up for testing.

Wall of text, incoming.

THE END? This is most of what I wanted to say, not all, but I got a call and had to leave in the middle, so I might be back to edit later. Any specific questions I'll try to answer in later posts.

tl;dr of it all? I find it a very fun game, good mechanics, very different from tanks. Things feel right, just the right amount of plodding along as ships to make strategy and tactics important while making things speedy enough to not become boring. A simulator this is not, just as Tanks or Warplanes is not, but it is fun, and I will be sticking around for the time being, as long as they don't do anything to screw it up royally.

It all sounds good, but will I be able to have a "squad" with more than 3 people total?

It's "divisions" here, basically the same thing as WoT's platoons. And no, joining a random battle is still going to be 3 people max, but I expect we'll also see the ability to do constructed team battles like World of Tanks has as well.

I know that it feels restricting to only be able to do stuff with two people, but at the same time, joining a random battle with a team that knows each other can can communicate well against a team of all randoms, that would just be unfair.

Also, but it might be due to beta and the low player count, you have way less then 15 players per team most of the time. 8-11 players seems to be the most common. A 3 man platoon will therefore have a larger impact then in does in WoT.

I think they're doing things a bit different with the matchmaker this time. The teams aren't even always even numbers, I think they're trying to even things out by ship classes and tiers. I've seen teams have a couple of extra people if the extras are lower tiers than the others, even occasionally outside of the normal tier range for that game.

It doesn't always match up to what I see in game, but I know I heard a dev say somewhere that a battleship might equal two cruisers, or 4 destroyers, or 1 cruiser and 2 destroyers, etc. But I know tiers also have a say in things. It does mean that the matchmaker gets things very wrong on occasion, but it also means that fail platoons, where you have extreme differences in tiers in the same platoon/division trying to be shoved into the same game get handled a bit better as well.

I want in this game just so I can get my hands of IJN Kitakami after she was modified into a torpedo cruiser.

So here I am, logging into the Bay12 Forums.  I'm not sure whether to feel happy about this, or sullenly admit the loss of what little remained of my soul after all of this Fun.  So much Fun.  So, so much Fun.  <shudders>
First things first.  You're all soulless husks of what might have once been decent human beings, drafted into a sort of moral apartheid from your better natures in the pursuit of things made out of cute animals.  I love it.

The Kita is a premium ship (No way to get it right now) at this point it seems, it's certainly there with all its torpedo glory though.

It's pretty fun game so far besides some menu lag and loading screens taking ages, but I think that's mainly just my PC not being quite up to the task of new games these days, oh well.

Got to the tier 4 Japanese battleship and the first U.S. Carrier, Battleships seem appropriately unwieldy but powerful.  I don't have much of an opinion on the carrier yet, it seems very deadly if you can get a good run on an enemy (You can use Alt to manually set torpedo runs which are in all cases better than letting them try and torp stuff themselves.)

I kinda wish that it had the navyfield 2 style of weapon control where you could control your secondary guns as well instead of them being automatic but oh well.

Definitely an awesome change of pace from World of Tanks.
