If you want to go down a cruiser line, you probably want to do the US one. They're superior in almost every respect save that Japanese cruisers get decent torpedoes.

I'm considering going back to Cruisers, maybe stick with BB long enough to get the CV.  Early battleships are so bad it's no wonder nobody knows how to play them.

BBs get good at tier 5 altho the japanese one seems decent at tier 4 with its good AA (something americans get at tier 6) and range coupled with large calliber guns.
It does suffer in knifefights because it only has 6 guns total while the Wyoming/Arkansas has 12 guns slamming agaisnt your hull.

And te damage increase from rthe higher calliber is not that large either.

Is anybody advanced enough to tell me at which Tier playing without premium account stops being self-sustainable? I think with World of Tanks it was somewhere around T7, and I'm not really ready to spend money on this, and I think I will have to make decisions about what to play soon (as Tier 4 to Tier 5 transition is the last that can be done in non-crazy amount of time). And there are some shitty spots in all the lines, I don't want to get stuck on those. ;)

T5 was the best earner, T7 was self substainable if you were good enough. Problems started at tier 8 where it was hard to even meet 0 over many games.

Can't really tell how things are with ships but the silver earnings seem to be pretty high.
So high that i never saw a loss so far... but i'm only teir 5 now so its the highest earning tier.

Plus there's all the mission bonuses and flags which can help a bit. Also it seems that the lower upkeep of stuff is balanced by how stupidly expensive everything is to purchase. So it's more about grinding out money to buy new stuff rather than grinding out money to be able to keep stuff.

You can also consider buying one of the premium ships if you feel like you might need the money boost, those usually offer more bang for your buck than premium account does.

Was thinking on buying something premium, but only interesting one for now is Atago, and it costs and arm and a leg. And probably a kidney or something, too. At least for me - it's literally about twice as expensive as my limit for a single game buy. I'm living in a place where salaries are quite lower than US/Western Europe, unfortunately.

It would be nice if there was lower upkeep/higher acquisition costs than WoT, at least for me. :) I don't think I will ever have enough time and money to play Tier 10 anyway...

@Jopax: what's your in-game name? I was looking under 'Jopax', but didn't find anybody.

If there is anyone else looking for friends on EU server, I'm Blind_Kitty in-game (notice the underscore).

Earnings are absurdly high, yeah, even without the CBT economy. Unless the repair costs skyrocket somewhere you should be able to play pretty much anything without trouble. And, as Jopax said, it's relatively easy to get the Zulu flag for credit boosts.

The Atago and Atlanta are both spectacular, but in different respects. I'm probably going to pick up the former once there's a Kancolle skin for it it goes on sale or I get an influx of cash.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, I'm Djoze ingame. I also have an account on the US servers but I'm not really feeling like playing that, even though I have that bonus code Murmansk on there.

Also bought the Langley yesterday, carrier gameplay so far is utterly underwhelming and I can't really see the fun in it. So there's one thing I won't be doing anymore of anytime soon.

Like early BBs, early CVs also suck.

They also have a higher skill cap than most things, barring U.S. DDs; using the computer-assisted firing solutions for your bombers won't get you anywhere. Hold Alt to manually drop ordinance, and make use of your squadrons' mobility to crosshatch torpedo spreads. They're honestly a lot of fun, not least because you get multiple things to do: anti-carrier ops (both intercepting their bombers and launching strikes at their CVs), eliminating priority targets, spotting over islands for DDs waiting in ambush, baiting enemy fighters into friendly AA coverage, taking down enemy spotting aircraft, &c.

It's a support role that also allows you to do massive damage if you're good. Granted, it does lack the thunder of guns, but it's a nice change. Higher tiers are also more exciting because you get absurd numbers of aircraft to play with; I think the Lexington has something like 5 squadrons.

I guess, but it still requires me to grind trough the low tier ones which have two squadrons and are generally not that fun. And I've become really allergic to grind in games, especially if it's stuff that I don't enjoy that much.

One of the reasons why I'm so far down the US cruiser line is beacuse I enjoy playing those the most while everything else is more of a break from it every now and then.

It doesn't help that the langley is a rock as far as speeds go.

I've noticed the amount of XP I get for a game is inversely proportional to how close I am to unlocking a new ship.  This game makes me fucking mad sometimes.

The interesting part is that the exp grind is measurably shorter than in WoT, given that "average" experience is around 1k and you can easily make 4-5k on a good match, while the by-tier requirements aren't much higher than for equivalent-tier tanks. It gets worse higher up, obviously, but at one point I decided to quit faffing about and ground out my Kongo in maybe an hour or two from less than half my modules researched on my Myogi.

It's definitely one of the easier grinds but I feel like I don't do well as consistently as other games.  We're talking new paradigms people have to assimilate and people are dickloafs even when they're doing stuff they're familiar with.  Including me.  Sometimes I get 16 citadels, five kills, and a billion XP, sometimes I'm dead 30 seconds in, and I can't tell what I'm doing differently between those scenarios.
