Avrak, City of Dreams.
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:44:19 am »

Elven politics may seem strange to outsiders, but its a system that works for the elves, most of the time. For great houses stand among others, picked through intrigue, money, and death. Three ways to become a great house. You can spy, bribe, and "take care of" those others, and eventually they may submit, and give you their place. That, or you can campaign, spill your hard earned Leaves into making your house head look good in the public eye, the people may vote to have one of the great houses replaced for you. Lastly, you can declare war on a great house, cast civil blood for your own chance of power, win against a great house, and you are a great house. Three ways to become part of the highest place in Elven society, which perfect describes the Elven peoples. Crafty, hardworking, yet brutal.

Avrak is the seat of power in the Elven Empire, where the great houses live, as does the Septose, leader and ruler of their people. The new Septose, Tregas Telvear, came to power the simple way, make money in the simple ways, spread propaganda, hire people to make him look good, and donate money to the study of science and magic. The people knew his views, the views he had towards the humans, the beastkin and the macgi, but they never, ever, saw coming what he wanted to do. He passed in laws, fighting for the rights of other races in his lands. For the first time in over three centuries the other races were allowed in the Empire. To become citizens, comes and go freely, and even have their hands in their politics. The people are less than happy about this transgression, and a new Septose may be at hand.

OK, I'm game if others are.

I'll play the scheming elf, Eglandir Lassanion, the young patriarch of the House Lassanion. His ambition is for his house to become one of the Great Houses, unfortunately many things stand in the way: his father (Mainor Lassanion) was executed by edict of the previous Septose after he was caught conspiring against the peace of the realm; much of the Lassanion lands and fortune was seized in reparations. Eglandir's great hope with the influx of new races into the empire is to leverage the chaotic situation to reverse his house's fortunes.

[other players are more than welcome to know Eglandir, be members of the house, or even lifelong foes etc.]

((Can races besides elves use rituals/magic? I sorta wanna start a cultish unathi tribe, but I wanna make sure that's within your lore. Also, are there any divine/demonic elements I should know about?))

Metador "The Loose" Leafson - Elf
Metador is the founder of his own chain or enchanted blacksmiths throughout the capital of Avrak. During the war Metador supplied the Empire with much of its lost Golden armors which he helped personally create. Seeing Tregas a turn coat, Metador wants to break his power over the throne by any means possible and empower the Elven military. Not only that but Metador is known to have a strong distaste for humans for their violence and has grown violently paranoid about their entering in the Empire. This has led to him ban all sales of his personnel businesses to humans. Other races he seems to enjoy the company of especially the Furmouth for their incredible wares.
Reserved. I'll be knowing your family by family business.

In his effort to debunk the current Emperor Metador is currently seeking allies amongts other Elven houses both small and great. He promises monetary support to whoever can compliment his ideology.

((Ok, what the hell is up with the Unathi? "Both men and women of the Unath must learn to make, repair and hone their weapons and armour" "Women are known as the best crafters of their kind" If the women are able to make weapons/armour and they're the best at it, why can you only use a forge if you're a male? Adding to the fact that they're also better fighters than males, why would anyone want to play as a male? Finally, they're supposed to be a warrior race and they're supposed to have high-quality weapons and armour so how are they so constantly enslaved by humans when in all logical sense it would be the Unathi enslaving the Humans? Another thing to note is that they're explicitly stated to be a warrior race while Humans aren't, yet it's the Humans who get to start with a sword or shield!
As for the Furouth, how are they not entirely enslaved already? There's no mention of them being physically better than Humans, they don't make weapons or armour even though they're apparently subject to slaver raids constantly, and they're not mentally geared for fighting in any sense.))

Yes, all the races can use magic, rituals. Divine gods and such, there are gods, they MAY get mad at you for do stuff, but really theres nothing they can do, unless you decide to pray to them. Allow them in for a blessing, and they'll curse you for being a bastard.

"Unath are proud warrior people, they always carry small daggers, forged strong, with the blood of your father mixed in," They do start with weapons, a dagger. And both men and women may use forges, not sure where it says that. As for why they do become enslaved. They are a proud warrior race. To them, they're better than humans, stronger. Why take them as slaves? They also don't think, they're fight, not scolars. Humans are seen as the brainless ones, but they can outsmart Unath. Not need to outfight someone when you poison their water and drag them back when they sick and weak.

As for the Furouth, they're never outright raided by humans because they like to play the fence. Only take the easy targets, while they're away. No need to alienate the people who make the finest jewelry there is. Just outright enslave them, and they can say "Hey. No, bad. We want this to stop, or you selfish rich bastards don't get your precious baubles." And since they physically less than humans, why would they want hordes of them as slaves? They're weaker, so less work, but an easy slave like a Furouth is better than nothing.

Quote from: Gameplay, Race Advantages
If you're male, you will also know to work a forge, making high quality arms. If you are a female, you will know how to make fine poisons and herbal potions.
It's implied here that males work with forges while females deal with potions and poisons. If females can also use forges then why isn't it mentioned and why would someone want to play as a male Unath when females can uses forges and can make poisons and potions?

Can't the humans just enslave some of the jewellers? Yes they're weaker and thus work less but slaves work for free, not to mention their weakness means they're less likely to escape.

Right! Ive been away for a while, several reasons, Im sure none of you are interested in why, so lets just get back to these questions.

And both men and women may use forges, not sure where it says that.

Well, thats a rather powergame-y question. This is a roleplaying game, meant to make and play roles. If you want a male Unath for backstory reasons, or just because you want your character male, thats a role to play.

As for the Furouth, they're never outright raided by humans because they like to play the fence. Only take the easy targets, while they're away. No need to alienate the people who make the finest jewelry there is. Just outright enslave them, and they can say "Hey. No, bad. You can lead a horse to water, yada, yada, yada. Pride over pain, enslaving all the jewelers in the world won't make any difference if they outright refuse to make what you want. Honour is a thing, and all that jazz.
