Bit of a wall of text there.  Hope you don't mind my extemporising a name, noticed that there were two settlements in northern Elbreth apart from Sheepy Hollow, and for all my searching I could never find out what the other was called.

Intended message: Cavalry, fire on the lone infantry unit on the right flank.  Surround and capture.  End of command.  (Repeat)

Legitimately, though, battle orders get confused.  I had the order delivered in this style for roleplay reasons, and it's completely acceptable for Flavia to have misread them, or the drummers to have mis-sent them.  The idea is to have a limited vocabulary that can be communicated in a limited medium (drum beats, semaphore flags).  I can iron out kinks for the future.

I got the sense the cavalry was heading up the right flank, which is why I tried my delaying attack. I even calculated how quickly they'd get there. But a battle is chaotic, what's done is done. Though this does give a nice conflict hook - did the General purposefully leave the people's militia to die, the noble bastard? Has this driven a wedge of suspicion into the army's ranks? Dun duuun.
