Dfhack has (at least had some time ago) a plugin that lets you trigger sieges by specific race.
Fortress defence already has been mentioned, so there is that. I also modded in 9 goblin races at some point, it takes like 5 minutes, and you can get 9 times more sieges. And of course, dig deeper - there is always something to fight there.

Absolutely! There's definitely something down there you can fight. But can you win? That is the question.

Many thanks to everyone here who has offered advice. :) I'm fiddling around with Fortress Defense now...for the sake of others with the same question who find this thread, I'll post back some impressions later.

I do know about HFS, but I'm especially hoping for something that exerts constant, early pressure, rather than late-game stuff that's triggered at the player's discretion. I want to have to desperately claw my way to late game. :)

I am very interested in these modding options for increasing the number of goblins -- that's probably what I'll try next. Thanks guys!

It was a script. I wrote it. It's broken now and no fix is in sight, since we basically have no idea how armies work.

Looking for some desperately clawing? Find yourself some terrifying embark site with autoreviving of anything dead. Near tower or goblin site, ideally.
Butcher those animals you get on embark. Have fun.

Is there a way to mod goblins so they learn combat skills faster?
I don't mean making them undead strong, but there should be a handful of elite soldiers in a siege squad, at least.

From the wiki, [SKILL_LEARN_RATE:<skill_token>:<percentage>] to set rate for a particular skill, or [SKILL_LEARN_RATES:<percentage>] to set rates for all skills. <percentage> of 100 is the default rate.

I think it does, from my time playing masterwork where skill learn rates are implemented for the dwarves.  But who knows.

You could find out easy enough by setting goblin skill gain to some ridiculously high value (say 5000), then waiting for a siege... if you get a bunch of highly skilled soldiers, then you know it's working, and can set it to a more reasonable value (maybe in the 150-200 range)

I am also interested in that, but fortress defense doesn't seem to cut it. Trying to get BABYSNATCHER on all the fortress defense civs so they gang up on mine.

We should have an invader frequency setting, really. Something like replacing the invaders: YES/NO by invaders: NO, RARE, NORMAL (something like the 0.40 standard), FREQUENT (0.34 standard) and OVERWHELMING (would be roughly equivalent to 0.34 w/Fortress Defense, but goblins only)
