Did you upgrade to the latest version of Long War (i.e. beta 15d2)? Because if you have I'd like to swap Shamrock over to the new British English voice from the Australian one.

After a fairly short discussion we agree to work on beam weapons. I know how successful they'll be on the battlefield, and I don't really want to waste any time getting them out in the hands of our troops.

Speaking of, we have a few soldier updates

I also order Shen to start work on some new equipment to help our soldiers out against the aliens.

His men also continue the excavations on the second level.

In the midst of our base management the aliens decide to do a hit and run on Australia. I order the interceptors up to hopefully take it down, or at least drive it off.

We manage to drive it off, but sustain more damage than I'd like to our own aircraft

Almost immediately afterwards another alien craft shows up on radar. This one is big, and headed low

An abductor landing in Melbourne. Time to get the troops geared up and out there!

Kaos will be leading this one, with a mix of Seasoned troops and a pair of rookies.

Spoiler: Soldiers (click to show/hide)

Australia requests some of the weapon fragments we've recovered to improve thier own forces. While we will need quite a few, we could also really use more Engineers so we take the offer.

Shen reports that our new equipment is completed and ready for use

The next few days pass uneventfully, until Vahlen reports that our Beam Weapon research is complete!

Now, what to focus on next?

Also, here is the list of all soldiers waiting on Promotions:
Rina Wind
Jane Rickenbacker
Vector Space
Quartz Mace
Jack Raven
Max Greene
Amy Wong

Xenoneurology.  What do we lack for Adv. Lasers?  What are the prospects for getting containment up and running?

Alloys, mostly. We have 19 before building any basic laser weapons and we need 30. So unless we can take down some UFO's soon it'll be awhile.

Containment up and running should be possible sometime soon, I think, if we want to go that route.

Alien Materials. With all the people getting shot we should prioritize better armor. (and maybe pheonix cannons)

Was that my first mission? Golly, out for (more than) a month again.

What version of b15 are you playing on? Since I've got an assault again maybe I'll see what build I can come up with.

Also this.

It's a pretty accurate intro for an assault.

Bloody Aliums, don't mind them attacking Melbourne, the massive herds of hipsters could do with thinning out a bit, and it was nice of them to destroy a few coffee dumps shops, but they really needed to die much quicker.

I'm torn between Alien Materials and Sectoid Autopsy. One could improve our overall tech progress, the other would give us more stuff from council nations... hmmm.
