Having heard about the previous incident, I attempt to locate the Skalewyrm and get its attention, hoping that it'll incinerate the. . . whatever it is. We'll be stuck down here (unless we have a backup shaft or something) but hopefully the malignant omniphage will no longer exist.

Along the way, I also look for any source of fire or extreme heat that I can use.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

{I don't. Second opinion? I don't object to there being one.}

{Gwolf, you cannot control NPCs not already considered under your control, especially not ones like Skalewyrm that are barely on your side to begin with.}

Foreman Murdoc turns to look for more effective aid, yelling to the soldiers currently firing into the elevator;

"BURN IT! It will not die except in fire!"

The guards, being soldiers, and well-conditioned to obey orders quickly, cease attempting to get their crude automatics to unjam. The older of the two pulls a thick leather cylinder from his belt, breaking several matches in his haste to light its fuse, while the other simply unbuckles his munition belt and throws it into the densest part of the spreading panivorous membrane.

As the edges of the thing begin to spread onto the stone floor at the rim of the elevator shaft, the older dwarf's incendiary spirals after four kilograms of its brethren.

Both soldiers have turned to sprint after their Foreman, with a barely-conscious, wounded Necromancer scrabbling after them, and the engineer Gwolfski, having heard the elevator coming down, is walking from his shack by the nearest underground pool to investigate.

Red light flashes around the elevator door, then fades out to an odd succession of darker shades, flickering strangely.

Whump.

There is a strange and terrible light.

There is a strange and terrible noise.

Everyone nearby is quite thoroughly knocked off their feet, and into a strange and terrible darkness.

Medical treatment on the surface is going quite well, and the fortress' physician has, at last, been found.

At the upper mouth of the elevator shaft, the little construct known as Spark catches a wave of esoteric energies from below, and, a few capacitors jump-started, begins rebooting.

{You, too, are probably pseudoconscious. That said, your action may have some relevance.

I'm quite exhausted, for reasons of college. I may have helped create a small quantity of Buckminsterfullerene today. Or, according to such petty things as when midnight takes place, yesterday.}

Spark moves back out towards me, if it is sufficiently powered.
((Grats on the buckminsterfullerene.))

Unless activity resumes soon, I will be declaring this, the third If Bay12 Was a Mountainhome installment, finished.

I will additionally post a summary of how I believe my planned story would have played out, and begin a fourth thread after my schoolwork lightens up, which should be sometime this december.
