The surface is presumably no-go unless the radioactivity has cleared up.

Right. I'll go from the top down.

Here are the old halls, which were heavily damaged when we got nuked. Be careful. There's the dormitories, lots of empty rooms now. Bi sad. Anyway, we go down here, and we get to the interesting stuff. Jails over there, and stay out of them. Next, here are the 'duke's' quarters. Don't like 'im. That's the gunpowder store. DO NOT LIGHT FIRES IN THERE! Oh, you're probably wondering what it's for. It's for guns, which are like crossbows but louder and deadlier. I designed some of those, namely the repeater rifle and some of the big guns we had before the event. Down that tunnel is purple rock which - oh dear, it seems to have spread a bit- Don't touch it. Behind this heavy lead door is radioactive stuff. Don't touch. As we go further down, we see the farms and workshops. Here's the library, Wealth of knowledge in there. Mundane and magic! Ask Fish 'bout magic. As we go down, we get to the caverns. Ignore the charred things everywhere. I live in this place, and i build machinery. It's wonderful. I'll show you it later. You probably are wondering about the ton of diamond by the stairs. That was a forgotten Beast. Speaking of those, there's a giant fire-breathing steel feathered serpent somewhere. He's harmless. That's all I can think of off the top of me head. Any questions?"

For the curious, a brief attempt at information gathering finds a peasant gossip, who explains that the invisible poison is a curse laid on the fortress when a Dancer demigod was shot down by others of its kind and fell among the mountains here a few months ago. The crater where it landed is still visible, and the shock of that landing knocked down much of the old fortress.

Those who walked here recall the valley which had to be walked up to reach the fortress being pocked with craters, some still smoldering oddly, and at the end of the valley, away from the path which lead to the fortress entrance around one side of the mountain, a broken wall, a pile of rubble, the remains of simple farms left to rot. Bones among the shattered stone.

"Rifles, you say? Interesting. How accurate are they, and is there any way to make them more silent? Asking for a friend."

"They are pretty accurate, but I'm afraid they have to be loud. We can silence them to a point, but it reduces accuracy and damage. I wasn't really going for silence when designing them. By 'I' I mean 'we'. "

The firearms currently present in the fortress are at their optimistic best meaningfully precise only within a few hundred meters, and are both rare and lethally unreliable. (Around two hundred smoothbore muskets and handguns are present, but their accuracy is not to be discussed).

Firearm supressors have not been made, and the manufacturing to create durable ones is not present, but if they were considered needful, simple ones would be relatively easy to develop.

At this time, the priorities in weapons development have more to do with arming the Battalion of a thousand untrained conscripts recently arrived from the Mountainhome that arming covert operations teams, however.
