Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

[I'd prefer if you provided a description for things you want your character to design. If you delegate to an NPC, I'll do it, but it usually won't be optimal.]

Update length: Three days.

Plans are drafted for a decontamination system. Several possible methods are considered, but it looks as though a more detailed design is needed for the workers to complete anything useful.

A group of workers lead by Elagn and Chaotic Skies continues rapidly bolstering the fortress' structure. Great fungiwood beams from the caverns, heavy blocks of quarried stone, and occasional steel braces are put into place, cracks are filled with strong mortar, ventilation shafts are cleared and, mindful of Patham's worries as to contaminants, have simple filters of coarse cloth placed over them. The filters will need monitoring to be any help, but should improve matters. Some areas require more than others, with one side chamber simply being filled with rubble and mortar to prevent its weakness crippling all around it.

The miners begin making plans for an attempt to recover or simply clear off and replace the upper fortress, but such prospects seem distant as yet.

The Auxiliary Entrance's fortifications continue to be built upon, with the little box canyon looking to rapidly become a formidable keep in its own right.

Chaotic Skies has expressed an interest in learning to manipulate arcane energies, and Magus Patham seems amenable. As such, the two spend an hour or so each evening looking over books, scraps of recovered data on Patham's PEA datapad, or simple practical demonstrations with Patham's recovering abilities. Skies appears fairly talented thus far, rapidly gaining a rudimentary understanding, if not yet practical capability.

The opportunity to spend much time communicating with Patham in his area of expertise makes it quite clear that he does not originate from the same Homeland as those around him, with offhand talk of controlled portals, commercial technomancy, and advanced genetic research telling a tale of quite a different timeline.

Work on the dam continues without Homelander involvement, and the project is expected to be at least functionally, if not full-polish, complete within a week. The crane is proving useful in installing heavy turbines, generators, and the like. Work is, however, slowed slightly by the workers' nervousness at the Skalewyrm's unfamiliar presence.

The Wounded seem to be recovering reasonably well, but morale on those who survived the Dancer's fall is quite low. For the Goblins, who inhabit one corner of the large rough chamber within which the Survivors currently reside, the dim candlelight and low ceilings are quite unpleasant. This of course in combination with quite terrible wounds and ongoing poor hygiene without large quantities of water are proving extremely harmful to the good cheer of all involved.

His Lordship approaches Patham and Murdoc one evening asking for advice as to this claimed invisible poison. His soldiers have been doing their best to avoid moving outside the fortress, but in times of war and frontier territory it does not do to forgo watchers, especially on the main entryway to the fortress and with such a wonderful display to attract attention.

"It's called radiation.  It...damages your body, makes it break down.  It comes from stuff like pitchblende, dust in the air.  Spark should be monitoring the outside for safety, but he's not said anything about it.

I can probably make some cameras.  They'll let us keep an eye on the outside without actually being there."

Feasibility analysis:Creation and installation of surveillance cameras using:Magic only, Tech only, Magitech.

Continue with the structural repairs and such, begin working on a simple pump model for moving water vertically more efficiently than screw pumps.

"As an addendum, it's safe to be in it for a while - or, at least, it won't outright kill you - but you should be cautious nonetheless. Rotate watches well, make sure no single dwarf spends too long on the surface.

By the way, Patham, we should see about some magical water filtration. I'd bet my favorite pick that we can do it more easily with magic than with what we've got available for other tech."

<<Nah, we'll have the Skalewyrm do it>>

Prioritize working on repairs or with Net. Otherwise, help with mining/planning for the upper part of the fort.

[You've been burning the charcoal to make steel, and it's pretty low-grade, so doing so needs large quantities. If you can figure out another way to smelt steel, it could be repurposed. Alternatively, power from the dam could be used, but that puts a damper on any other jobs you might have for a lot of electricity.]

[Chaotic, keep in mind that the Skalewyrm refers to Homelanders as "Unhated". You don't exactly have the thing on a leash.]
