[I've got enough time for another update tonight, assuming I get enough posts for that to make sense.]

Just continue coordinating relief, I guess. Double-check which fortress sections are still safe to use, and move people back into them as is appropriate.

At Patham's words, one of Murdoc's settler-soldiers looks up worriedly:

"Uh, Magus, the Mayor had us pick this up, look,"

The dwarf sets a small satchel down, pulling out what appears to be a simple metal canteen, wrapped in thick cloth. One side of it is smeared with an odd metallic golden substance, now dried.

"Meant ta' tell ya' sooner, but, y'know, everythin' since... Anyways, we found a puddle of this gold stuff, Mayor grabbed a bottle of it for ya' to look at."

He proffers it uncertainly, careful not to touch it directly.

Murdoc, clothing still damp with ashen rain, begins the process of orchestrating proper restoration work, in concert with Elagn's ongoing structural efforts. It would appear that all but a few already substandard rooms in the fortress proper are quite usable, though further structural reinforcement will help people feel safe.

As he and a few other administrators make a far more thorough inspection of the fortress than was practical during the heat of the disaster, leaving specks of the slowly drying ash wherever they go. The same ash is being spread around entrances and ventilation shafts by workers passing in and out, or simply by airflow.

The fortress has enough supplies to remain indoors for several months, in part thanks to the various caravans from the mountainhome bringing simple bulk supplies in addition to their more exotic goods.

It looks, on second examination, as if the upper fortress may be partially intact, with rubble having pushed through the main thoroughfare into the downwards tunnel. It would require months of excavation to take any advantage of with these workers, however.

Scan that.

Also, plans for a decontamination room should be drafted.

[The major barrier to decontamination at this time is water supply. You currently have to get water from the cavern lake and river, purify it, and either haul it up 160 meters of stairs or waste magic bringing it up the elevator. That doesn't leave you a lot for baths, or augmented decontamination spray.]

{Thats why you all need to timeskip, so you can get a steam engine, or alternatively, send Porkins to grab a discarded prototype model form my shack.

[Your prototypes are extremely primitive and use poor steel. Attempting to run a municipal water system with them would use an absurd amount of fuel with an unconscionable risk of injury or death to the operators.]

[You do have enough labor available to operate a pumpstack, if you had one built and were willing to deal with the unpredictable effects on Serf morale. You could likely even help one along with magic. No innate physically-nonsensical shenanigans, though.]

[Correction, you'll have a working dam by the time you construct the infrastructure to use the dam's electricity. It no longer needs Homelander supervision, and will be complete soon.]

[Also, "Otherwise". It's possible to use the dam's turbines to operate an arcane generator, just as it will be for an electrical. The arcane generators will be far less efficient, however.]

((You know, I bet magic could filter water a hell of a lot more efficiently than we could with our current tech level.

Can we convert mechanical energy to magical? With, say, a turbine.))
