Continue being friendly to the Serfs. Look into steampower, and see what I can do.

Work on developing a either a method of hydrogen-proofing cloth or making an already air-proof cloth using polymers, leather should be airtight assuming a method of sealing the stitching is developed; further separate the diode and anode in the hydrolysis machine to facilitate easier separation of the hydrogen and oxygen (Keeping the separate should be very easily done)

(You may feel free to end the mood at any point, but how long it takes determines how well it works.)

Imic has created Hammerfury! All craftsmanship is of the highest quality! It is decorated with images from myth, and memorials of a long-ago war with the goblin kings. The images animate and glow when goblin-kin come near the weapon!

Gwolfski continues deeper into his obsession with the power of steam technology, barely eating enough to continue.

Chaotic continues fostering his relation with certain families amongst the Serfs, drawing several of their less-active members into his own interest in the basics of steam mechanics, a pursuit that edifies all involved.

Elagn works on the issue of gasbags. It is easy enough to render cloths impermeable to hydrogen with existing waxes and glues, but the result is far too heavy and stiff, with a high likelyhood of endurance issues. Leather, with the seams similarly sealed, has similar issues, but somewhat more durable. In the Homeland, the first zeppelins used the treated intestines of animals for the task, properly made sections of such material being thoroughly airtight and lightweight, if expensive.

Regardless, the current stockpile of cloth could likely be used to make a hot-air balloon, with a little work. Many early balloons were made with wool walls, since they do not need to be particularly air-tight.

The electrolysis process is further refined, and it is believed that with some care, the gasses can be separated quite simply. A small balloon of fine silk is filled with the product, and while it certainly is not very pure hydrogen, it lifts into the air of its own accord for several seconds before leaking away the lifting gas.

The lights in the East begin again. This time an extended series of flashes and sparks in the upper atmosphere, with occasional fading bits of light sailing away into the blue, brilliant slashes of incandescence splitting the ionosphere. The flickering core of the phenomenon splits away into two dancing parts, which begin an extended exchange of... Something. Streaks of light, leaving tails to the horizon.

One of the streaks falls to the north of the fortress, far out in the plains before the valley, landing amidst the endless grass. The impact is bright to the point of pain, then becomes a distant orange glow.

Another, this time landing to the west, closer. The mountains block vision of the final resting place, but the sound reaches the fortress barely behind that of the first, a supersonic roar followed by the thunder of impact.

More of the dancing, distant lights join in the... Battle? Ballet? Duel? Whatever it may be, the night sky is illuminated by their glory.

A third streak falls within sight of the fortress, striking a distant peak, the sound and brilliance overwhelming.

In the far skies, a splash of fiery ichor spatters out against the stars, filling the sky with falling gold. Something shoots away from the origin of it, one of the brilliant dancers, trailing droplets of glory and followed by a myriad streaks of killing light, falling despite all apparent effort.

For a few, beautiful moments, the whole display distracts the watchers from the direction of the falling dancer. It falls from the remote east, jinking away from deadly streaks, but always westward, toward the lands of dwarves.

Fear almost has time to set in, and then it is upon you, roaring over the fortress from the southeast, giving an instant of clear sight through the obfuscating brilliance. Something larger than life, almost hominid, gorgeous and alien, robed in gold and fury, wounded beyond survival and pursued by arrows like spears brighter than forge-fire, trailing a shower of ichor.

It clips a mountain perhaps two kilometers along the valley, sending it into a spin and spraying ichor-laced magma over the entire region, the impact skipping it another several kilometers before it finally strikes the earth itself.

The incandescence of it rivals any bomb. The heat of death crisps hair, dries eyes, tightens skin. Fire rises into the sky and any still capable of sight watch a wave-front ripple over the scrubby gravel hills, throwing up debris as it races into a meeting with the fortress walls.

Those on the ramparts die instantly, torn and burning, but the walls redirect the worst of the shockwave, leaving the rest to merely sear and throw, ignite and crumble.

Some, exceptionally strong, augmented by the technology of another world or possessed of arcane boons, recover more swiftly than others, rising into consciousness and pain in time to see the golden fire of a demigod's death fade into oranges and reds, in time to see other Dancers slice overhead, twenty kilometers to either side before peeling away into the east, in time to see the hail of arrows land in a fifty-kilometer circle around the fortress, bringing ruin and light to the horizon in a dozen places, shattering the tall shale hills of nearer lands in fire.

"ZHA SEVNEK HAS FALLEN."
