This does not touch upon what the Homelanders did next, but is only a completion of the prior entry.

Another cloud of dust is visible on the horizon. The last one was a necromancer's army. Whatever this one warns of, the fortress' bells ring and beleaguered soldiers man the defenses. They cannot stop another real attack, but no army on this planet could take the fortress without notable losses.

As it comes closer, the new telescopes pick up the glinting of steel in afternoon sunlight, then a great banner.

Closer still, and the banner carries the Mountainhome's sign, while the others beside it speak of a regiment, with their noble commander. A hundred and fifty dwarves in armor marching, sixty in the fine steel of professional soldiers, and as they grow closer again, the carts and brown-clothed folk speak of menial laborers brought along for the journey, nearly three hundred strong.

Whatever the Mountainhome thought of you, it must have been good. This is enough dwarves to begin the reclamation of one of the fallen peaks, let alone reinforce a border outpost.

As four hundred and fifty dwarves march under a setting sun, the gods' war in the east fills your mind with the pulsing buzz of distant cataclysm.

It is fortunate the necromancer's horde exhausted the minefield, since they ignore both signs and road to spread out across the small plain before the fortress walls, the phalanx of steel-armored warriors and their lord on his tunnel goat reaching the gates first.

"The Mountainhome dispatched my party to relieve the defenders of this fortress, to protect the valuable research being carried out here, and to assume command of the outpost. You will allow me entrance, and provide all relevant records."

[5/6] You're quite sure the voice doesn't exactly have your best interests as its foremost priority, but it seems like the sort of entity that dislikes lying, and having claimed you as its champion, will likely act in your favor.  "I'd recommend you don't let anyone else stand near it when you do, but you'll be safe enough with leather gloves, I'd imagine. I'll keep any real harm from coming to you."

Not that I doubt, but, well, someone managed to sneak in under false pretenses before.  So, a healthy dose of paranoia is probably in order."

"I did not tell you who I am. I carry the deed for this fortress, sealed with the Mountainhome's own crest, and am followed by a half-regiment of the Mountainhome's finest. If that is insufficient proof of my right to assume command, I will assume it by force."

"Indeed you didn't.  I meant as in the sense of "How do we know you're actually from the Mountainhome", which you've mostly confirmed.  Nevertheless, I'd like to see those documents before we open the gates and all.  Blame it on paranoia if you must, but there are lots of dangerous things here and them getting into enemy hands would be Very Bad.

I really don't advise attacking us.  It would go badly for all involved parties."
