The merchants claim their box contains a potent artifact. brought from afar by a great wizard. Most likely, they have no earthly idea and found it in a contaminated midden, but it's certainly impressive. The box istelf would likely be worth a good price, let alone whatever somebody tried this hard to contain.

Gwolfski, having returned with Chaotic Skies from their second expedition to the cavern river, gets into an extended "Discussion" with the local magi over the box, then purchases some strawberries out of his own pocket. However the merchants got them this far without spoiling, you may never know.

Chaotic Skies has learned a good deal from the aforementioned expedition, which carried an experimental lime-lamp spotlight to map out the depths of the ravine. Such directed lamps will likely be helpful in many areas, but this initial device proved admirable for purpose. 

The river's channel is some twenty meters deep for the hundred-fifty meters of its length surveyed in this half-day expedition, and between seven and four meters across, all worn into stone.

The long-thought-missing Fourth Masked Wolf, fortress runemaster, steps from a solid wall in an unlikely feat of power. However he achieved it, such a thing is no mean feat.

Murdoc rather shiftily retreats to his own chambers, sealing the thick stone door behind him.

"You want my advice? The box is obviously a bane sarcophagus, whatever the makers put in it can't be very nice. I would recommend you obtain it by some means, whatever it contains is likely lesser than I, and possibly of great use. And of course you'll need to get the dead away from your home until they develop properly."

Organize a small outpost to be carved into the canyon of the cave river, and see about getting some rails laid down. Pay the merchants to deliver the message about miners to the mountainhome, as Fish wouldn't like to send it probably.

Oh, whatever.  Buy the box, on the condition that we are able to open it and if necessary return it before they leave.

Taking the information about the river into consideration, begin requesting parts for the powerplant from the foundries. <<do we even have foundries at this point?>> If possible, also attempt to scout more of the river.
