"Ya don't need any particular shape of magnet, we'll just want a bunch of them so we can run several generators. See if you can figure out which of these rocks you can refine for rare-earth elements or something, magnets are pretty useful."

"Isn't there something with you turn the magnet around the wire and power happens?  Because then we can just do a steam turbine thing."

"I was thinking hydro-electric. You know-waterfalls, rivers, big wheels, that kind of thing. So, do we have any rivers nearby? If we've found one in the caverns, that would be best, but if not, we're going to be building a very large dam.

"I think there is one, yes.  We could do that too.  Is it surface area..."

"Basically move a big coil of wire in and out of a strong-ish magnetic field, or vice-versa, and a current appears in the coil. Leave the the stationary and put current in, and the coil spins, giving you a motor."

"Of course we could do, like, transformer, something something?"

[Amperzand]

"Transformers give you a different voltage, they're mostly just coils of wire and lumps of somewhat magnetic stuff too. You'll probably want some."

"Surface area isn't really the issue, it's how far the water falls from entrance to exit. That's why a river in the caverns would be ideal; we could build a large system, and the water falls a large amount, meaning we get more power. Of course, nothing as efficient as the kilometer-tall dams on Earth, but it'll do. And yeah, that's basically all this is; water wheel has magnets on either side, coils are near by, while water wheel spins coils go through lots of magnetic fields."

"If we go look at the river, I could give you a fairly accurate idea of what to expect from this thing."

Yeah, I tend to descend into somethingbabble when I have to technology but I have ideas.  I just hope that there's enough magic to bootstrap a conversion..."
