Name: Azey Lotta
Appearance: A girl slightly above average in height (for her age, which is 15) that has dark grey eyes and has her black hair tied up in a ponytail. Azey is rather skinny but not malnourished. Her body is lined in the thin, black circuits of the light suit with the occasional nodes and a small socket in her chest to fit in batteries. Azey normally wears all-encompassing clothes to both protect her from the environment, plus some thick gloves and boots to prevent injuries when scavenging in ruins. On her left wrist is a wind-up watch and strapped to her waist is a small dagger in its sheathe. Both the sheathe and the dagger's pommel have her initials on them.
Natural Skills:
Azey is excellent at scavenging, having done so for over a decade.
To get at some ruins, Azey's had to do her fair bit of climbing. While she's had the option to buy climbing tools, she decided not to since she had no idea how to use them and trial-and-error training could be rather risky.
A scavenger needs a certain amount of agility to traverse the more lucrative ruins. Whether it's jumping over bottomless chasms, shimmying across a ledge, or carefully walking across a solitary pipe above the aforementioned bottomless chasms, Azey can do it. Her thin frame helps in this regard.
Searching through the ruins of countless civilisations and times has given Azey a vague connection to the world's previous inhabitants.
Azey's career of venturing into dark, dimly-lit ruins in search of treasure has given her a better ability to see in the dark than most people, but not to any supernatural extent.
Her job consists of searching ruins, finding treasure, and selling that treasure, so she's learned to tell the true value of items, though her expertise focuses on relics and treasures that one finds in ruins rather than ordinary trade commodities.
Even when knowing the value of something she's found, haggling is still required to get a decent price. She's not exceptionally gifted or experienced in the art, but she's decent enough. She's been forced to get better recently from her permanently greater need for more money thanks to her light suit's unfortunate side-effects.
Azey has learned how certain machines work so she can construct them with her light suit, but between the lack of teachers, reference materials, and free time for experimentation, she's not a great deal better than a beginner.
Light Suit Skills:
Azey can use the nodes of her light suit to generate a temporary construct of basically whatever she wants, though her ability to do so is limited by her ability to comprehend how those items work. Thus, she can easily generate swords, bows+arrows, and even functional wings all made out of "light" but more technically advanced devices like guns are out of her reach. Things not in contact with her disappear within a few seconds. Constructs cannot harm her, even if the construct is a sword and she stabs herself with it. Constructs require a moderate amount of energy to generate and a low amount of energy to maintain.
Azey can overcharge a construct construct to give permanence to their existence. The material of the object correspond to what Azey intended, even if it's something vague like "metal". Unlike constructs, creations can harm her. Creation requires an extreme amount of energy.
The nodes of the light suit can be used to generate energy in amounts specified by Azey. This energy can be used in many ways, including an ad-hoc blowtorch, jump-boosters, and rockets. The energy released by burning energy does not harm her. Energy burn requires a medium to high amount of energy.
- Overcharge - Energy Blast
Overcharging an energy burn will fire an energy blast. An energy blast requires an extreme amount of energy.
Metabolic energy can be used to remove sleepiness and decrease muscle fatigue generation when they're used. It can also be used to heat up the body. Using this ability requires a low amount of energy.
Azey can insert a battery into her socket to provide a number of positive effects. When the battery is inserted and activated, all hunger and sleepiness disappears and doesn't appear again until the battery is deactivated, at which point hunger and sleepiness returns to the level they were at. It can do all that and decrease muscle fatigue generation without affecting its 24-hour time limit. The other abilities of the light suit do eat up the battery's time, but since they use the battery's energy rather than the body's energy no pain, hunger, or fatigue is incurred from using them. When a battery is active, the ageing process is paused.
Bio: Azey Lotta grew up for a part of her life in an orphanage with other children run by a middle-aged couple who own a trading post next to it. The orphanage's funds came from the trading post and the trading post gets most of its money from the loot the kids scavenge. Scavenging is the standard pastime of the kids at the orphanage, almost to the point where it's a culture.
Azey herself started scavenging at age 4 when a boy of about 8 got her and another kid her age to help with some loot. Azey herself was among one of the best scavengers among the orphan kids, but that just meant that she reliably got decent loot. Most kids got famous when they barely escaped death during their "adventures" or when they found something awesome in the ruins. Azey's been famous a few times usually for the latter reason.
At 14, Azey was soloing one of the ruins that had already been picked clean in the easily-accessible areas. The deeper areas of the ruins couldn't be accessed by the older kids since the entrance was too tight and wouldn't be accessed by the younger kids since it might be dangerous, so Azey figured that any loot there wouldn't have been taken. After telling some kids where she was going and who to contact if she wasn't back after a long time, she went exploring that area of the ruins.
It was fairly brightly lit so navigation would've normally been rather easy, but Azey couldn't read the writing at all and there were no maps around for her to read. She wandered around for a couple of hours getting some decent loot when she found a small room with a strange suit. The suit was skin-tight, smaller than her, and made of something transparent. It had black lines that branched out all over the suit, hollow circles interspersed along the lines - especially the ones on the arms - and a rectangle at the top of the chest with a glowing yellow centre from which the lines seemed to originate from.
After searching around a bit, Azey found what looked to be a manual that showed how to use the suits and what they could do. Azey couldn't read a single word of the manual and it was damaged in a few areas, but it came with illustrations. Azey had never been in a fight so the illustrations of the sword and the energy blast didn't seem that useful to her. What convinced her to put on the working suit was the illustration of the wings. It's an objective fact that being able to fly is one of the best things ever, so why wouldn't she?
The suit was smaller than her but it worked as a one-size-fits-all and it wound up fitting her perfectly. She pressed the yellow button and that's when she realised that the red aura she saw on the illustration in the manual wasn't meant to be taken literally - it was meant to signify pain. Azey was on the cold floor for a full 10 minutes screaming in pain as the suit merged with her. When it was done, the pain subsided into nothing in a mere few seconds, except for her throat which was sore from all the screaming.
The suit itself no longer existed and Azey's body was permanently changed. Just under her top ribs was a small rectangular hole lined with metal and the thin black lines and circles which were on the suit were now imprinted directly onto her skin. Some experimentation later, she got dressed, searched the rest of the ruins (finding some high-quality loot and a bag of batteries), and left. She sold the loot for a large amount of money and told everyone what happened in the ruins, plus showed off some of her new abilities.
Over the next few months she became more used to what she called the "light suit". The lines she called "circuits" and the circles she called "nodes". It was tiring to use the suit's ability and she started getting hungrier and skinnier so she reasoned the suit was taking her own energy to power itself.
Constructs were merely tiring to deal with but the energy burn actually hurt to use when using high amounts of energy. At first she couldn't figure out how to fire the energy blast, but consciously putting more energy into the burn seemed to work. Unfortunately, it was pretty painful and it even left her arm numb for a few dozens of seconds. She used a battery to create a dagger and found that it was very sharp and of very high material quality. Its sheathe is also a creation.
The light suit came with a significant negative side-effect. It greatly increased her food requirements which necessitated spending even more money on food. Luckily, her suit's abilities let her scavenge from even more inaccessible - and thus more lucrative - ruins. Despite this, Azey's had to use batteries to stop from starving a few times and is now down to two batteries. She took the job from the caravaneers because they said they had a perpetual generator which fits into her socket. If she could get that kind of generator she'd never have to eat again and she can use her powers as much as she wants! And so, Azey Lotta joined the caravan.
