LeadenStik:

You shove through the crowd to get a closer look at the man in the square. He's standing on a stack of crates. "Welcome, one and all, to the Rock of Consistency! Your new home! You might be confused, I was too, but I'm here to explain everything. For unknown reasons, there is a rift in reality and this is an entire plane of chaos energy.

"As soon as you leave the rock and touch the purple mist swirling around the borders, you'll be randomly transported to anywhere in the entire multiverse! Don't worry, coming back here is easy. It's ingrained into you. Just think about the Rock and you'll be here in a flash. The problem is going back to where you were. If you were in a dungeon and about to get some cool loot, but you're desperately in need of healing and come back home, you might as well say goodbye to all that loot, because chances are you won't be able to go back.

"In other news, the Rock of Consistency has everything you need! Taverns, trainers and an entire marketplace for you to buy, sell and craft gear and consumables. For now we've got NPC merchants, but in time we want you guys to make this town an adventurer town! That's all you need to know right now. If you want to hop into the Fog of Chaos, go ahead, it isn't dangerous. For some reason the place it sends you to is always scaled to your level."

The man leaves and the crowd of players disperse.

Bigjaredmonkey:

(You get novice gear instead of starter gear and an extra 2 gp because you're human)
You get a good view of the man by standing on your own stack of crates. The man is teaching all you noobs about the Rock. (See above.)

RLAlchemy:

You shove through the growing crowd to get a better spot to listen to the man. Maybe some pizza as well? You see a ramshackle pizza stand dwarfed by bigger market stands in the market. The man on the crates is giving a speech. (See above.)

3spookytrees:

You are now an elf rouge, so all your rogue gear is red! Congratulations for unlocking that easter egg! You use your rogue skills to parkour on top of a building to get a better view of the man. He's on top of a stack of crates and he's giving a tutorial speech. (See above.)

G0l3m:

You've started with material: Copper! You've started with familiar: Lure Beetle! You've started with element: Light! Please update your sheet. You are in the Rock of Consistency. There's a man on a stack of crates giving a tutorial and exposition. The man is giving a speech. (See above.)

Blazing Glory:

You've started with monster-type: Sun Basilisk! Please update your sheet. You're in the beginner area of the Rock of Consistency, surrounded by a crowd of noob adventurers, themselves in turn surrounding a man on a stack of crates. The man is giving a speech. (See above).

crazyinjunk:

You've entered the game and made your character. Now you're in a strange town with swirling, purple mist outside. Giant chains seem to run through the streets. You're dead center in a crowd of noob adventurers, listening to the exposition NPC. He's giving an exposition speech. (See above.)

Dying of laughter?
Dying of pure unbridled hatred, actually.

"Well shit." she says, looking at the boiled leather coated with bright red paint that served as her armour "At least no one can mistake me for someone else."

Go to the market, and look for a better knife

((Does a Construct's material have any advantages or disadvantages in a fight? Do the types of Tame Monsters have special attacks? Just wondering.))

"New to the game too, huh?"
"Yep. It's a good thing it sounds like we won't just be tossed in the deep end if we start adventuring now."

((Am I a generic slime? That big, blobby thingy everybody thinks of when people mention slimes? Can I morph into different shapes?))

The large Iron-rich slime makes a faint bubbling sound and starts squirming over to join Blazing Glory's adventuring group.
