Confession: I'm only a minor Dwarf Fortress player, I'm here for these games. And on that note I feel I might belong more on a forum that isn't directly tied to a game like this one is, perhaps one meant specifically for the love joy and appreciation of forum games. Any such place exist? What other, perhaps more dedicated forum game hot spots have you located on the web?

I have no idea. This is the first forum I have participated on (and it's been great).

I've noticed that this board is more busy than the dwarf mode ones.

Not sure where my first was, perhaps GameFAQs, as that's where I spent the most time. However this is my preference over that one because:
Less moderation
Threads do not expire(like they do on less moderated boards on GameFAQs)
Rich Text Editing
The Ability to edit the OP(and all other posts, you can see how this helps adjusting game rules, GameFAQs' may only be edited for 1 hour.)


However I would say I like the organization of the GameFAQ's PM system better, much easier to find the conversation you want to view and then see it, rather than all of anything ever all at once.

I have found better ones than either, like at vgf.com
Where you can view an entire conversation(not mixed in with others) and see sent and received messages within that conversation.
However vgf suffers from some sort of undo bug where hitting undo restores a message to when you first pasted anything. It may have been fixed.

Edit: thanks Caellath for showing me how to activate 'conversation' setting for the inbox here.

In the My Messages section, have you tried Preferences > Change Settings and then changing the "Display personal messages:" option to "As a conversation"? It's what I use to see the complete back-and-forth of conversations.

This has by far the largest FG&RP community I can think of. Sufficient Velocity and SpaceBattles technically have communities, but they're story oriented games and usually not original settings. MSPA Forums and the Chocolate Pi affiliate forum also do games.

TV Tropes does RTDs (though not as prolifically as we do), but there are reasons for avoiding that site apart from the memetic ones. There are other places out there for Mafia, but we've got one of the largest communities that I know of.

TVTropes has a pretty big RtD following and the Cata forums have a pretty decent FGRP section, but this is one of the better forums I've seen for forum games.

Honestly, the upperboards have basically nothing to do with the lowerboards. Go read through a few upperboard threads, then read a few pages of a lowerboard one and look at all the different faces. These are the DF forums, but a lot of life is down here, too. The whole "tied to one game" thing doesn't matter at all.

It's 'Roll to Dodge', not 'Roll to Die'.  Granted, people do often die in those games.  Or are disintegrated.  Or damned.  Or 'Dermed'.

This is true for me for the most part, as well.
