so is this a brewing bug?
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:43:17 pm »

so my fortress is about to start going thirsty for seemingly no reason.

my dwarves are refusing to brew they have jobs queued up to brew and extract, have an abundance of of empty barrels, have all the ingredients in a stockpile right next to the brewery (which is open to all) and all the ingredients available to brew in the kitchen screen.
i have a lvl 5 brewer with no other jobs assigned and he is sitting in the dining room doing nothing. under the job screen he is there saying no job while only 3 lines above him is the several jobs for brewing.

i have tried canceling all jobs and restating them, demolishing and rebuilding the brewery, moving all the ingredients into an ajacent stockpile, assigning the job from the manager screen and giving the brewing labor to every dwarf in the fortress but still they refuse to make anything alcoholic

what the heck is going on with this?

1. Give us a screenshot
2. Is your brewery/brewer in a burrow?

What are those items for brewing? Are they even brewable? Are you using right "brew from plant/fruit"? Are they not forbidden (try [d-b-c] to area reclaim)? Is there path between items and workshop? Is that workshop not profiled (set to bad skill restrictions or just to one person)?

Is there a locked door between your dwarfs, and the still? That's gotten me a few times.

Well it does LOOK like everything is in order. You don't need the extract from plants job in there, that is for other stuff.

Can we get a shot of your announcements screen?

I would try putting that "Brew drink from fruit" on top as you have some blueberries, it seems. "Extract" is for other things (see for more).

Have you tried building of new still nearby?

In theory the extract job would just cancel if it didn't have the right stuff.

The only time I've seen jobs just sit there was when I had nobody with those labors assigned.

Make sure your brewer is actually assigned to the brewing labor.

Somebody has to try to do that job, find out there are no items to do it with and then cancel it (and only then it gets to announcements screen). Without anyone assigned to relevant labor a job can be sitting there forever. I guess there are either no right dwarves (none with free time with the brew labor) or they are ruled out (burrows, profile of workshop, can not find a path...).

Agreed, but the workshop looks navigable and OP says he hasn't messed with burrows or profiles.

So if the labor thing isn't an answer the next step is to have OP upload his save for one of us to poke at.

as for building a new brewery i have built 2 more since the problem started and it didnt fix the problem

i do have the brewer assigned to the labor it is infact the only labor he has, i have also given everyone else in the fort the same labor too.

heres the announcements screenshots aswell as a DT screenie (and the other screenies too so its in an album)
