1. Floodgates 2. Immediate Jobs
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:30:17 am »

I have two questions / comments.

1. Does stone block or prevent floodgates from closing? I built a water system that has failed because the lever isn't closing the floodgate for no reason I can see, except that the flow of water must have pushed stones into the same space.

2. In the past, dwarves have been responsive to "Pull the lever" jobs, especially when I place them near a meeting area. With the new changes and the "Do Task Now!" option, I expected to see improvement but frankly, response time seems significantly diminished. Even with a dwarf within a few tiles and without a job, the game will pick a dwarf on a different level, far away. This has made some of my usual planning difficult because the response time has worsened. Similar experiences? Known bugs?

1. Yes, any object in a floodgate will stop it from closing. I usually use bridges instead.

Thanks! That's good to know, though I am disappointed that it ruined my plan. :P They must have cleared away the stone when the floodgate was built, right? I haven't really run into this problem before but I guess I need to dump any stone near a floodgate before using it.

They will remove the stones for you.
You can even use normal doors.

Floodgates can be destroyed by building destroyers, which is another reason for using drawbridges instead.

You mean regulating a vertical supply of water with a bridge? Or is there something more to it?
