Dwarfs don't defend Burrows

Hello, i am new to the game and this is my second fort.
I followed captnducks 2012 videos and watching his new ones but i've run into this problem with defending the burrows the dwarfs will just stand in this one spot (9 of them).
I didn't really care until a flying monster came and killed 5 in one shot a year ago.

Its like the cant find rhe assigned burrow. Did you name the burrow when you assigned it, and is it the one they are supposed to defend, and, and can they reach it?

Yeah i named it ramparts and assigned them to defend it, but they only stay on that SINGLE space.
I deleted it and tried remaking it but they just go to the same square.

Under the square is the training range (archers) and there are two stairs up onto the wall.

Okay i fixed it.

I reduced the burrow to be only one line just before the fortifications and now they are patrolling.
