need help with a giant bat

I have a giant bat in the main staircase of my fort (no idea how it got there). I am at the beginning of the game and I have no military. It does not seem to be strong enough to kill my dwarves, but they have been fighting it for a month already and it is barely injured. The fighting dwarves are getting thirsty and the traffic is blocked.

Any suggestion to get rid of it? Thanks!

I assume you embarked with battle axes. Can't you just try to make a quick squad, pick those battle axes as weapon (picks work too) and let them kill it?
