ello, I was watching this video, and it I wanted to know what you as members thot(its intentional, bugger off) about supporting game hosts?

Do you think you'd ever feel compelled to support a game host, specifically with money? Would you offer if they didn't have a donate page, or would you feel better about it if they did have one? Does the whole idea disgust you, or do you think their might be something to it. Have you already given or received payment.

Because it isnt a job. Its something the host does for fun.

Lots of people have fun jobs. Also I'm not saying not to host for free, I'm saying what about people who feel compelled to donate, and how you would feel about it.

Compare it to say... a DJ, who puts on mixed tapes for a few hours and gets payed a few hundred dollars.(think I exaggerate? Think again.)

Game hosts are often, perhaps more so than not, attentive, dedicated, hard workers who genuinely care about their player's quality of experience. Have you ever wished a DM would update his/her game more often, because it was soo good?

Not really, I mean, a few donations aren't really going to make them update faster if the speed is due to waiting for players or their personal life. I'd imagine that unless the donations are sufficient to act as some sort of stable income, it's not going to affect the speed much.

Once upon a time there was a grandmother, who's passion in life was to tell stories. Her grandchildren would become encaptured it the beautiful tales she would weave. Soon, they invited their friends to come. And soon they invited their parents. And they began giving money to her so that she could do it more.

If she had said, "sure I have time to tell stories, but what good will that do", shed have never allowed that to happen.

And what happens when that grandmother runs out of ideas for stories? Or her patrons get bored?

That would only be rather specific case. People have plenty of other things to do in life and quite a lot of factors could slow down their rate regardless of finances.

I said it was her passion in life. Assume she didn't get bored, nor did the people stop coming. I believe it is a true story.

Isn't that a bit unrealistic though? I mean, it doesn't really sound consistently feasible for someone to be able to. After all people may have other passions, and with something like a forum game, you can't really post much faster than your slowest player.

I'm not exactly against the idea of donating to GMs, after all, if people want to, they can. I just don't think it's going to do much aside from showing a player's appreciation. Plus it could easily lead to people accusing others of using it as a bribe of sorts and whatnot.
