Later in the year meaning Fall or Summer?
Fall/Late Summer time.
Ah, okay. I'm only at school here, and will go back home for the summer, so those months wont work for me.
As in you're leaving the area for good in the summer?  Because that's when I'm arriving.  I'll be going to school now for the next 4 years, in all likelyhood.
No, no. Just for the summer. I'll be back in the fall, unless something changes.

How on earth did I miss this thread?

I live roughly 2 hours east of San Fran (depending HEAVILY on traffic), so that's doable as a day trip for me. Saturday or Sunday would be best though any day is possible, and the farther in advance I can give my boss a warning the better my odds of getting time off.

What sorts of things would we want to do?? being San Fran, there's lots of ideas, but us being nerds I'd wanna do something nerdy. The Metreon is there, but I have no idea what it's like nowadays. It was fun when I was 11 or so.

I've only been to San Fran with family, so I really don't know what there is to do.

I visited some sort of "beatnik museum" with a school club once. Unfortunately I don't remember where it is and I don't know if anyone would be very interested in that sort of thing.

Other than that, the only times I've been in or through San Francisco were on business and I couldn't exactly go sightseeing. Isn't there an aquarium or something we could visit?

Those both sound fine and dandy.

- Exploratorium's nice, but has an admission fee, and it isn't as cool since they moved it from the World's Fair building.
- Some of the art museums like MOMA are neat but not sure how much else there is to do around there.
- The Embarcadero, Market St, is a decent area to see some things in, and it's easily accessible by public transit.
- I was at the Metreon not too long ago, it's a nice place to hang out but nothing strikes me as very San-Francisco-ey there.
- Fisherman's Wharf. No.

Not sure if we're committed to the city or not. Some of the outlying areas will be easier to access and still unique to the area:
- Half Moon Bay / Pacifica is also an option. It's much quieter and less expensive than the city That area is where many locals go for weekend daytripping -- you know what, scratch that. We're meeting on a weekend and getting in there on the weekends is hard.
- Stanford campus & surrounding area. It's a bit spread-out but caters to bored college nerds. 'Nuff said.

If you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with the Stanford campus area? I've never been there so I don't know.

Japantown's also an option.

Totally an option, yeah. Public transit is sometimes a bit funky to get there.

So since the topic has come up, what would be the best way of getting around San Fran (or wherever we end up)? If we'll be taking public transit, I'll need a place to park my car for the day (maybe I could borrow someone's driveway?). Or I could drive people around in my car, which can fit four passengers and has plenty of trunk space to hold people's stuff.
