Stockpiles: Stop putting empty barrels/pots!

I always put a stockpile in my dining room for food and beverage. Then my dorfs put *empty* barrels or pots on the stockpiles. Not cool, Urist.

How do I prevent this?

If you really need those empty barrels you can reserve some of them in the stockpile menu (press p).
But I don't see any side effect of that. You dorfs can use those empty barrels to brew or store food, so they will be filled eventually.

You can also build a furniture stockpile to store empty pots and barrels, but I just don't want them to leave my workshop.

There shouldn't be any more than one empty barrel in the stockpile at a time unless you enable them under furniture.

That, plus maybe they're leaving empties after they eat/drink the contents? If you create a furniture stockpile for barrels and  pots somewhere else, they'll haul the empties out of the dining room.
