Recently found this site, which has loads of bad art for old pulp magazines and the like. Not games, but similar to the stuff we see here.

Spoiler: Such as... (click to show/hide)

Chock full of weird old sci-fi, sexploitation, NSFW smut I'm sure had some very interesting articles to read, and racism. I would highly recommend checking it out.

Ah, good ole scifi magazines. Makes me want to reread the Asimov anthology I've got sitting on my shelf.

I always thought there was something weird about the Snake's Revenge box art.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's not really that bad per se (although it's not precisely a visal marvel, either), and weirdly enough, the train, boat, and gratuitous woman were actually part of the game. But for some reason I just can't get over Snake's face, made in that bizarre 80s airbrushed box art style with unnatural curves and buck teeth.

And is it just me, or is he wearing parachute pants? I look at those pants and that's all I can see.

Although now that I think about it the visual nightmare in that game came more from the in-game graphics than the box art.

Instead of box art, I present to you a flyer for a Japanese arcade game.

Oh man, this thread. I actually went back a few pages and found my favorite not taken avatar of the bunch. I mean, he just looks so engaged in that brutal murder.

So I looked up Landstalker and as it turns out the game is on Steam.

Wow.

Okay. Uh. I might need to see if the game lives up to the cover.

It's pretty hard to say whether the creatures in that cover are terrified of his pelvic thrust or of his oiled sword.

Landstalker is, without a doubt, one of the best SEGA Adventure/RPGs of all time. Cringe worthy box art or not, it is an amazing game of the past in style and tone.
