Balor's Journal, 3rd of Sandstone.I've become somewhat uncomfortable with the number of bird corpses we have lying around, so I've begun construction of a corpse hatch where we can dispose of our unwanted nick nacks. Atir- Nobeard's friend- wants to try adding a device to compost the rubbish, and it seems like a good idea. Doubtless the smell would begin disturbing people eventually, or some meddling kids would find the place and start asking why we have a hatch for corpses at all.
In any case, another set of migrants have arrived. A lot more than I expected, to be honest. Apparently some of them are former insurgents who were liberated from one of Uzol's re-education camps and made their way here. They didn't seem particularly happy to see me, which was understandable, but I've managed to explain the situation (or a version of it that suits my needs while not giving any goblin spies anything to report) and I think we can all live in peace for the time being.

One of the new guys tells me that he knows a little bit about military tactics, so I've given him the post of militia commander for the time being. Not that we have any weapons. Or armour. But it's a start! He calls himself Quartz, so I suspect that he's from the same place as Amethyst. I don't hold with naming children after gems, myself. Give me an Obsidian or Galena any day. I'm considering putting Taran into the new militia as well since he seems to have some experience with that spear of his, but on the other hand losing a carpenter would be somewhat detrimental to our growth at this stage.
5th of Sandstone. Finally got the chance to look at Aegir again today. Amazingly, her eye seems to have fully healed in spite of the state it was in when she was rescued from the birds. The rest of her injuries seem treatable with only a few sutures and some dressing, so I think she got off luckily all in all providing you ignore the fact that she was mauled by a zombified bird.
9th of Sandstone.I'm beginning to regret cutting down all of the trees close to the fortress. Had we spared the fruit bearing ones, we'd be able to profit from a decent arboretum, and walling it off would have ensured a safe supply of fresh food beyond what the fungus farms can produce.
15th of Sandstone.Endok, our migrant leatherworker, has been refusing to leave his workshop. Witnesses claim that he's speaking in tongues and could be possessed by a demon or something, so I've decided to sacrifice a yak bull to the gods. If that doesn't sort out the problem, at least I'll have a few steaks to eat.
23rd of Sandstone.Endok doesn't seem satisfied with the yak leather, so I've sent the militia out to kill the wolves that have been prowling around our borders recently. Doubtless our militia will get wiped out and the wolves will install themselves as our new leaders, but it's better to risk that than to allow Endok to go insane, wipe out our militia and install himself as our new leader.
