Yeah, the names don't tell you anything, it would be cool if they were more in line with both the class and race.

I finally leveled up my 12th character to level 20, so I get my first new city from since the country was founded. It actually took quite a few days for the game to register that I had enough characters for the extra city, so people take note of that and be patient.

I'm going to keep mine centered around where my castles and other cities already are, so I'm going for Altarwood (76,92).

Regarding the game taking a few days to register your level 20 dude:

A few days ago, I recruited some low levels and put all my level 20+ guys into a garrison, with the intention of leveling up some new characters.  I left the 20+ guys in the garrison over night.  The next day, one of my towns (Giantsgard) went into revolt.  For some reason, it says I can have a max 3 mayors when all my 20+ dudes are in the garrison, and 4 mayors when they are all in the party.  So, maybe that's why it didn't see your high level guy... was he in a garrison?

Maybe, but I keep all my characters training up in garrisons except for the minimum 1 guy I need in my party.

And then one day the game decided to register that I had enough guys for the 5th mayor, so I got my whole party out of the garrison to go take over another city. So, the game registers people in garrisons eventually.

God-like blacksmith in Ashford.

I've noticed that this thread has slowed quite a bit, and lots of folks haven't logged in to the game in a week or more.  Boredom seems to be setting in.

I suggest we start raiding Staberinde's towns.  He hasn't reciprocated our peace overture.  Neither has Cardolan.  Land of the Lost Swords and Souls seems all right to me.

No, that's a really bad idea. We want this bay12 thing to survive. Pissing off Staberinde directly won't help anyone. There are about 40 unclaimed cities to our north, just gradually expand up that way.

Going around attacking people randomly won't help us at all, since we're at our city control limit.

Well, I doubt this bay 12 thing will survive much longer anyway, as everyone will quit playing from boredom.

I'm not playing out of an acute lack of free time rather than boredom. It is term time, after all.

I did get bored, if I'm honest. I'll try logging in again tonight.

In the news:

It appears a new kingdom has arisen today: The Kingdom of Blessith, created by the party "Men of Siege".

Their initial zone is just north of our holdings.  They are shown on the mini-map in a slightly different shade of red than Staberinde.  I initially thought Staberinde was expanding again.

The guy seems to be marking out the whole north area as his, considering he's conquered a town to the far west, and then grabbed ones right to the north of us.

I also have gotten into a border skirmish with Staberinde that I didn't intend to. Put a new fortress too close to Stronk's area, and he grabbed one my other castles (not the new one). I grabbed that back, since he manned it with just 1 guy, then he took over the new castle and put a bunch of level 28 guys in there.

Level 28 archers are a PITA to kill! Focus fire on the non-archers first, then focus fire on them later. I took the new castle back, but this time I razed it myself, and just re-garrisoned my dead guys there without a fortress. So, watch that you don't attract attention (for now) by building too close to Staberinde. So far I haven't razed any castle that was pre-owned by Stronk. I hope this will not escalate into a scorched-earth campaign, as I want to get more of my characters leveled up before any large conflicts.

Pretty much agree on wanting to delay a conflict with staberinde. My adventuring party could whack all of my towns and garrisons with little trouble.  I have little doubt this is even more true of the long time players (like the core of staberinde) since they've had time to get equipment that I can only dream of wielding at the current time.

As for he new kingdom.  From his comments on the forum he's a returning player.  I guess he started a new account.  He does seems to be slightly aggressive with his castles, he popped up another one on our border since the last time I logged on.

No, it's an old account. He's been idle for a long time.

Blessith is aggressive against weaker players: he is attacking and taking over castles belonging to other players, such as Skr and Forlorn. Forlorn has another a castle @ 68,15, not taken over by Blessith, only because that castle has been attacked too many times and is no eligible for attacks. The location of Blessith's forts definitely seems designed to mark out everything to our north as his territory. He tried the same in the West with Staberinde, by taking a town over there, but Staberinde quickly attacked that town. Also, watch his town taxes, which are exobitant and clearly designed to keep people out of his area. So basically skirt around his area and don't try to shop there.

I'm fast-tracking some more castles up north now to stake some territory claims.

I get the impression people want to build up before trying to take on Staberinde; but it seems to me that we will never be able to match Staberinde in power.

Their two main players have been playing for several years.  They have 58 million and 59 million xp in their characters.  One guy has 791 characters, the other 384.  We will never catch up.

By the way, there is no such thing as defense in this game.  The attacker has a huge advantage since they can cast spells and can pick their battles.  Anyone with a party of level 20 characters can take any of our garrisons or towns any time they feel like; no amount of building up can prevent it.

If we wait around, we'll lose the only advantage we have, which is an overwhelming number of players.

Just something to think about.

Other than "attack and blow everything up" what's your propsed plan? I don't really want all my castles blown up since I am trying to get all my characters up to level 20 and I invested a lot in building level 10 barracks everywhere. If you think there's a viable plan for war now ... outline the details so we can discuss it.

It's not like we can actually take over any Staberinde cities. Everyone is at their mayor cap. So, a war of attrition and blowing up each other's castles is the only alternative. That sounds like a pain in the ass, and something we'd permanently need to sustain action every day to achieve.

My plan right now is to hold onto the castles I / we already have, get my characters up to level 20, get more mayors, and expand our cities. This will then allow us to garrison yet more characters and speed up leveling. Within 3 months, we should be able to have around 60 cities. It's critical to keep our castles alive for now, since a castle+level 10 barracks is the fastest way to level up characters.

One problem with war now, is that Staberinde already has many characters over level 20. Meaning they don't need garrisons at all to grow their mayor cap. We could wipe out all their castles, and they'd just stick their excess characters into Inns, and go around taking over cities each day. Whereas we are really reliant right now on garrisons to grow our city control.
