Any new changes since the revival of DF?
« on: February 13, 2015, 06:45:46 pm »

Can anyone list new features that have become apart of DF ever since it came back from those years without a single update?

Also does anyone know if the skin and hair is more random than before? Instead of one skin and hair per civ?

Multi-tile trees, vaults, worldgen now continues during play, better NPC conversations, succession of positions, new combat mechanics, travelling armies, elf, goblin, and dwarf sites that can be visited in adventure mode, tunnels, dozens of new plants, priorities for mining and other dsignations... the list goes on.

Skin and hair has always been random, but colours tend to get bred out over time. This probably won't get changed for a while.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Once apon a time I created a cast for every hair and skin combo, it was long and very very very stressful and encountered a glitch ware the hair color was not listed, thus had to re-do it all over from the top with the hair and skin tone listed in the description of the cast... I gave up after that..

DF was never dead, so it wasn't revived.

Just posting here to say that in my most recent world, which is about 250 years old, my dwarves all have varied skin colors -- I get lucky about 10% of the time and get dwarves that aren't all monocolored in worlds that old.

It pleases me greatly to see them not all look the same in stonesense.  :D

So it does happen.  If you're a stickler for it, I recommend genning younger worlds or multiple ones and checking genetics before starting a fort.

DF was never dead, so it wasn't revived.

It was very very very dead man, the game went without a update for 2 years or more, not to mention it was left in a unplayable state that whole time ware goblins elves and dwarves didnt have sites and thus neutering your experience in the game big time, its brimming with life again, but over that long dry period I saw many people slowly stop posting and stop making modded content and the forums lost at least 20% of its active community slowing down reply times by a lot.

The game was perfectly playable, unless you define "playable" solely as "able to visit other races' sites in adv. mode".

Toady gave us updates fairly regularly over that time, both in his devlog and in the DF Talks. To say the game was dead is to imply that it was abandoned, which is most certainly not the case.

Dead, no not at all. Hibernating.
You know bears wake up from hibernating to sleep and dream
So it was dreaming when the small updates came. Then it awoke with hunger seeing springs life and colour.

Cool avatar dizzy.
Have a lovely time in the spring

I mean, it was just your choice of words, but it wasn't dead. Toady updated the devlog constantly.

Precisely this.  Toady kept us apprised of the goings-on fairly regularly, and the game was perfectly playable beforehand.  The lack of the sites didn't really create an impediment to gameplay so much as they were interesting features that weren't implemented yet.

It was anything but dead. In fact, times like that are the best times for mods and utilities because they don't have to worry about keeping up with DF, and can advance much more

Let's not pile on the man for his idiosyncratic definition of dead :).

It sounds like you're primarily an adventure mode player! You'll be happy to know that pickable, plant-based food is totally a thing now, so food is almost never a problem on the overworld. There's also smells and you can climb trees and jump, and you can go visit dwarf and elf and kobold and goblin sites, though there's some bugginess regarding goblins that should be friendly to you not being friendly to you. Also dwarves & elves are way more playable than they used to be cause you can actually find armor that's their size at dwarven sites!

I never played adventure mode in 0.34, so idk what else to bring up as a change since then.

Ok ok :3
It was dead update wise, I kinda wish over that time they had made the base upload of the game one with visitable states even if they were just human states ya know?
I found it hard to get new players into the game on recommendation cause they would download it and have there experience hurt by it, I felt like i had to always share my modded version which was a hassle with my internet connection XD

But I see what you mean, maybe not dead, but I did notice the forums became a bit slower during that time nearing the end, even I found myself checking back rarer and rarer over the 2 years.

Thank you for the clear headed help there :3  I agree with everything you said except for being a guy, XD I find myself the only chick to frequent DF Regularly! At least that I have had the pleasure to meet.

Sorry for assuming!

You are definitely not the only lady on the DF forums, and not even the only one you've met! Hi. ;)
