Miners Not Doing Job

So today at school i was playing dwarf fortress.. I had my miners mine out a part of a mountain for starage. After I tried to get them to mine more, they just walked around like I didn't tell them to. I'm starting a new game now, on my PC, it's the start of the game, and they're not even mining at all!

Troubleshooting question - are the designations yellow or green?
