I think it's like this:

Low rank GQ: HR1 minimum
High Rank GQ: HR4 minimum
G-rank GQ: G1 minimum
Super G-rank GQ: G special permit minimum

You get Basarios pretty early in singleplayer (which you should probably play since you unlock a ton of stuff). You also get him from expeditions.

I love my evasion HBG. I feel like I can fight anything solo. Not to mention I've gotten quite attached to my crabgun. It was cheap to make and can handle so many different shot types. It's not particularly great at anything, but it's super versatile as a result.

The problem isn't getting the quest itself, it's actually buying it. High rank Kirin is gated for HR8+, so basically, G-rank.

Looks like each monster has different requirements for guild quests. I noticed Garuga is HR7 for high rank and G2 for G rank. I'd imagine lower tier guys like Kut-ku and Velocidrome require the minimum ranks, but tougher stuff has understandably tougher requirements.

Basarios is from low rank Caravan quests. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think it might be a hunt? Once you have the quest needed, you get an urgent to fight the Basarios. A quick search suggested catching the ketcha watcha at guild 3.

Once the urgent is done there are going to be no more caravan quests for the basarios as far as I've seen, so deliver some steak over and over and eventually one will spawn. Kill it and grab two shinies, and you get a chance to land a basarios quest.

There is a 3* urgent caravan quest for basarios named "Research: Basarios" where you fight Basarios in the everwood. There's no way you could have progressed without fighting one. You do need to actually go on an expedition for him to show up in higher ranks, I think.

Oh no, you can advance to GR4 without researching the Basarios. I've done it myself. You can also miss the Yian Garuga too. Urgent quests aren't always required quests.

I got to Caravan 5 before getting Basarios. I still don't have Yian Garuga, actually.

The Basarios Everwood quest is found under the "Urgent" tab from the Guildmarm when it's available to you, but it's not required to progress in the Caravan. In fact, the quest that you need to do to unlock it isn't a key quest, either.

So: they, and I, bypassed them because we didn't do literally every quest available to us as soon as it became available, basically. There are a bunch of quests I have access to that I haven't done, just because I'm too lazy to kill 5 remobra or collect 7 fossilized bones or whatever.

Y'know how Golden Rathian does nothing but spam tail flips? Well Yian Garuga does nothing but spam insanely fast beak attacks and charges.

The only reason I'm talking about Golden Rathian right now is because I just finished killing it SEVEN times. Managed to scrape together enough carapaces to make its armor. This Fate+15 nonsense had better be worth it. Anyone know if the armor's luck bonus stacks with (Ultra) Lucky Cat?

By the sixth and seventh fight with the G. Rathian I had tailored my gear specifically for killing it - a Thunder element CB with elemental phials, and Zinogre armor with +15 Thunder attack.

Yian Garuga is like Rathian. Fireballs, poison tail, spin spin spin.

And it likes to stab you repeatedly.

This. I've only fought it a few times, but the combos the thing pulls are some serious bullshit.

"Oh, yes, thank you, Mr. Garuga, I DID want a fireball after that poison tail swing. Now I'm suffering TWO ailments, just wonderful! Oh, are you going to finish me off with a charge while I'm getting up? Aw, you didn't have to..."

I feel the need to point out that, until rare /7/, this is all you can really do for element weapons - make a set for pretty much every element.

Because for some reason Element Attack Up is not on any sets worth making until rare 7 - before then, it's LR and HR Kirin. Which, as I have mentioned, you can't get until you're in the next...rank-set or whatever... up.
