You'll get plenty of gear for them as you progress. Gear's pretty important, your palicos actually do a lot of damage. For example, blunt weapons can break things while cutting can chop off tails.

Each palico type also has different stats. For example, fighters tend to have the best stats while medics have pretty low stats. The type of 1st stringers you have also change the stats of your main palico.

Palicoes are just a nickname Capcom gave them to differentiate them from lynnians.

I've been trying to use stamina cats because people are flipping outa bout how good they are. They've still only helped maybe once the entire fight with their stamina skill thing, and they're level 15.

Yeah, once you break into HR in solo play, all palicos will be "HR" from then on.

I put it in quotations because what really happens is that palicos have a chance to get the other skills only available in HR. However, you're still just as likely to get palicos that are identical to LR palicos. The only difference is that healing palicos are much harder to get.

Any of you big pros have any leads on Armor Stones in this game? Used to be available from LR volcano, Uragaan, Agnaktor, and of course Granny Go-to, but it doesn't look like you can get them from any quests or merchants.

Try doing mining quests or hunting "rock" theme monsters.

Uh... block?

Haven't gotten there myself yet. Currently attempting to get the materials necessary for a Gravios set, and boy is that a pain. Not only do you need his stupid skull shell (which basically equates to the rarity of a plate from Rathian or Rathalos) but you also need hides from Ioprey and Iodrome. And hides from Ioprey are a semi-rare drop. Need seven of them.

Many little dinosaurs will be harmed in the making of this armor.

I've got the Kecha Wacha longsword and full Tetsucabra armor right now.  Feeling pretty good, got quests for Gypceros and Basarios now, not sure which to go for first.  Probably Basarios since I've never managed to kill one before.

Basarios is easier than Gypceros I think. Basarios has very little HP and moves super slowly.

Bassarios is weak to water, so I'd say go for it, just run away from it when you start to see some type of gas coming from it
