Sadly that still doesn't help too much when a Stygian Zinogre is breathing down your neck.

Gah, I have to say that my biggest gripe with any of the MH games is that the tinier guys will still try to murder you for no readily apparent reason when there's a giant carnivore right next to them.  I wouldn't even mind if they just left the area instead of running / rolling headlong to their deaths by trying to attack the little guy being murdered by the three story toad.

Yeah, it's pretty worthless. I almost never get a full 5 stack of the same forte simply because all the 5-stack skills are kinda worthless.

Only two types of palicoes I use full 5 stacks. Bombing and stealing. Bombing because it's funny. Stealing because it actually makes them steal useful stuff instead of monster bone s x1.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Support palicos becomes helpful at G rank where they get 1-2 shotted by the monsters, so them reviving quicker to give yourself some breathing room is helpful.

I noticed that support palicoes have pretty good stats too.

Well, it's not often you see a Ruby Basarios pop up when you're already fighting a Ruby Basarios.  This has been an odd expedition.

Heheheheheheh...
So I have long given up trying to get Subquests when it comes to breaking certain parts of monsters, I capture them or Kill them way faster then I mean to so they never break unless by accident...
The hunt of the Khezu subquest is to break it's body. Second time I go for it I once again go to Capture and start throwing the Trancs and boom, Capture Complete, Subquest Complete. The Trancbombs broke the body...
I forgot those did damage as well...

Is it worth using up my precious Ukanlos gem on any of Uka's weapons? I've been thinking of making his GS, but I want to see what you guys think.

Taking a look at the stats, the Ukanlos greatsword has a -30% affinity. I'll ignore the ice damage here, since, well, it's a great sword, it wont attack fast enough to make the most out of that. So that -30 affinity means that 30% of the time you do 25% less damage. That comes down to roughly 90 less attack than stated on average. Where this can bite in the butt though is crit draw gives you 70% affinity on draw attacks instead of 100% (The difference between those two is another 90 attack for what it's worth, and a crit draw GS user that has a weapon with the same amount of base attack has 180 more effective attack).

That being said... the Ukanlos gem is only used in weapons and gloves. Since it's not a very common drop, it's a good idea to think long and hard about whether you want that full set of Ukanlos armor, or whether you want a weapon.

Since I tend to not look too hard at the element of greatswords much, I think you need to weight between this and the Akantor greatsword as far as options for rare 7 go for dedicated use, but it looks pretty top end, drawbacks considered.

So I have a question about how damage is calculated.  A lot of people say elemental damage is best on fast weapons.  Why?  And why is raw damage better for slower weapons?  I assume elemental is independent of weapon base damage, is that why?

How do my damage numbers relate to the numbers on a monster's chart?  Like my usurper's boltslicer has 429 damage and 170 thunder.  A rathian's head reads 90 on cutting and 25 on thunder.  How do those numbers work out?

Element damage is very simple - you divide the visible number by ten and multiply the result by 0.x where x is the value on the monster's chart.

Raw damage is really messy and weird and has a different multiplier for each weapon and then different multipliers for /that/ for each move.

There's a calculator around somewhere (kiranico? maybe?), but aside from that I think you're on your own.

So my boltslicer does 4.25 thunder damage against a monster with 2300 hp?

Maybe. I should mention that my knowledge is from Tri, so...almost certainly incorrect. And I may be thinking of status in the first place, rather than element, and it could be 1.x rather than 0.x... you get the idea. I don't know the series all that well anymore.

Nah, I looked it up and that was right.  Thinking more about it I guess it makes sense, considering how many times you have to hit the enemy.

LIke a full spirit combo is...  One, two, one two three, and however many the final spin does.  That's 4.25*6 at minimum which is up to 25 damage and appreciable considering most monsters take ten or fifteen minutes to kill

Is the Arachnoscale+ better than the Full Blackguard?

The Arachnoscale+ has significantly better sharpness but less raw damage. It also has 2 less decoration slots (which means I lose artillery god and get artillery expert instead).

Edit: We also had some pretty hilarious hunts together.

I loved the B. Tigrex + Stygian Zinogre arena fight. Shit was crazy. We were totally unprepared. I was going "Which one do we kill?! What the fuck? Where is Karkov? AH FUCK IT, KILL THE TIGREX!!!"

I've been wearing the same Seltas Armour for the entirety of high rank but facing the Teostra... I think I need to upgrade. I literally die in one explosion.
