Maybe I should have made that Dual Swords. They always seem to be the ones to get impatient and smack the dudes I put to sleep even though we have a GS and CB on the team. Sometimes you're midcombo and can't stop in time, I get that. But so many just keep swinging away without a care in the world. Yeah, out of all the people I've hunted with it's felt like the DS users are least, ah, professional?

Side note, I tend to see people wearing the same five sets of armor. I've yet to run into anyone else wearing full Obituary. Or any Obituary. But man, full Obit and Gloom make for a devastating combination. Shit gets sleep'd at least twice a fight at G-Rank.

The hammer in 4u is pretty underpowered, or at least outclassed by other weapons (Charge Blade, Hunting Horn...).

With that said, one of my most successful Diablos hunts had a hammer user in the group. Sonic bombed to stun him when he went underground, hammer user stunned him while he was caught in the 'pitfall', when he finally gets free I flash bomb him out of the sky to stun him again. By the time we were done he was almost dead and the hunt had barely even begun.

Back when I mained lance I decided I would start using a different weapon for online hunts, and I was contemplating between hammer and switch axe. I only chose Switch Axe because the coin flip favored it.

I've gotten so used to the Long Sword (in MH4U alone I have 600+ quests with it and the second highest is LBG with 12) that it's been hard for me to get back into the groove of my old favorite classes, namely the Gunlance. I'd rather avoid finding out X attack by Y monster is unblockable and just stay agile the whole time. I know every class has it's benefits and perks, and in past games I've focused more on other weapons, but I've found that the LS fits my personal playstyle the best.

However that hasn't stopped me from making two or three weapons for each type and upgrade them just in case I want to try something different.

NINJAEDIT: MH4U seems to make the cost of bowgunning much cheaper than in the past. Back in MHFU I intended to do just that, but god damn if it didn't require going on a gathering quest every other hunt, or having to buy materials all the time otherwise. MH4U seems to make things cheaper and also more abundant, making the Bowgun only route actually feasible. Plus dat dps.

I ran most of the early game just with my LBG, only switched when I hit Gore Magala.

I want to try to use gunner weapons but I can't really use the C-nub without digging my fingernail into it, and I'm not sure I want to go back to the 3u ways of having a digital D-pad on the lower screen.

I'm on an original 3DS, you have no excuse :P
I usually hold R and use the actual D-pad for very quick adjustments.

I still can't get over the thought of using an analog stick to aim in any game, let alone a d-pad of all things. It astounds me how people pull it off without auto aim of some kind.

We got gud.

You really just get used to it after awhile. You only really need to aim on the bow (mostly because you don't have enough ammo).

With the HBG you can just shoot whatever since you're mostly using pierce / normal anyway. Just try to aim at the general area of the weakspots.

I also almost always rock trajectory, so my critical distance is very large and there's no pressure there either.

-------------

Also, in MHX, gunners have it super easy. There's only one single hunting style you will ever use which is the one that lets you have the super evade. So you don't need evasion any more.

If you've ever played bow with evasion +3, you know it's total bullshit how ez-mode it is (other than the no ammo thing).

However, because there's no G-rank you can't get trajectory or all the other G-tier skills and you're mostly limited to 2 - 3 meh-ish skills on an armor. So gunners lose a lot of DPS there. Gunners among all the classes are the most dependent on skills for damage after all.

How do you do items, though?  I can't even land those things in the vicinity of the creature I'm targeting, usually.

My strategy has also changed a lot in the time I've played. When I first started playing MH3U I almost exclusively used dual blades, but then in the time I've played MH4U I've gone from chargeblade to dual blades to insect glaive to sword and shield to gunlance. Now I mainly use lances, and sometimes switch axes. It seems like lances fit my playstyle better than anything else I've tried.

Yeah, he does that. Most of my first fight against him was me running around panicking as explosions filled the whole area. Same goes for my meatshield friend, who made the terrible mistake of joining me on that hunt.

He scary.

Are you trying to play solo?

By the way, what's the maximum level you can upgrade your armor? Kiranico said the max defense on this piece of armor was a certain number, but I've lveled its defense beyond that number and it can still keep going.
