You sneak up to the barn. Being so obviously abandoned, who knows what may be hiding in there? Peeking through one of the gaps in the wall, you see the inside, lit by sunlight streaming down from holes in the roof. You enter, looking around, when suddenly you hear a noise! Something large stands up in the dim area in the back of the barn - you've woken a bear! Startled, it quickly becomes enraged, and charges forth!

The bear doesn't have the distance to build up a good charge, so you slap the bear across the face, sending it stumbling backwards. It sways around for a second, and you wait to see if it will realize and go away, but sadly, it does not. As it recovers, it resumes its attack, and with one kick you splatter the bear across the barn walls.

Can we recover the pelt?

Either way, search the barn.

The bear has been reduced entirely to a smear of red pulp spread across the wall and floor. With nothing recoverable there, you decide to search the barn for anything useful. It's delicate work: the floor seems to be littered with small pieces of rusty, discarded metal, partially hidden under debris from the forest that must have blown in over the years, but you manage to avoid stepping on any of them or cutting your feet. It takes a while, but eventually you spot something that could be useful. Behind a bale of ancient, rotten hay you find an old axe, it's head rusty and its handle splintery, but it still seems somewhat sharp. It would be a bit bulky to carry around, but on the other hand you have been wanting something sharp for a while.

Nah, leave it. We have our bare hands...

[WillowLuman]

Not wanting to carry an unnecessary weight, you leave the axe behind. It would be best if you found something smaller for your sharp-edge needs. With that, you leave the barn and set off back South down the road. The afternoon is well underway by the time your reach the crossroads again, but the sun doesn't help much, as these clothes do little to protect from the cold wind. You begin following the untrodden West fork which turns sharply to the South after a short distance. Something's odd, though. You hear a whooshing in the distance, rapidly getting closer.

Suddenly, something comes roaring around the corner. You see it for a half-second before you dive out of the way, and hear it go roaring away behind you. What on earth was that!? It came by way too fast.

[Peradon]

If we have super strength, we may have super speed. Run after that thing and pull it to a halt!

[WillowLuman]

No, you think. No man could run as fast as... whatever that was. From the sound of it, it went up the North fork on the road, where you had initially come down from, but as you cannot hear it any longer, it must have traveled quite far up that path by now.

[Peradon]

Dang. Well continue....

[WillowLuman]

You walk a while further before the road turns West, and you come upon another fork in the road. One path continues further West, and you can see it curves Northwards. The other keeps going South.

[Peradon]

Go west!

[WillowLuman]

The West fork, curving Northwards, seems to continue North for a long way. The sun is beginning to get low. Shall you continue this way?

[Peradon]

Yes, continue.

And am I really the only one that plays this?

At this time of day? Yes. We should have taken the axe and skinned the bear, but it's too late now.

Continue forward but look for spot where we could quickly and easily build basic camp. Branches of thickest evergreens make tolerable bed and blanket.
