Trying to make Jelly People
« on: February 09, 2015, 03:20:35 pm »

I'm trying to make creatures essentially made of jelly: A thin, outer layer of rubbery material, followed by a more  jelly-like inner layer. Right now, both materials are modelled after fat, but I kinda want to figure out how to make em more "stretchy." Resistant to impact and such. One should not be able to kill the other reliably by punching them in the head, thus bruising the nucleus. I mean, a warhammer is a different story, but overall they should be more resistant to impact than other races, and should be impossible to bruise.

Flesh balls are already like that.

If you have no bones or organs in your creatures, then they will be nearly immune to blunt damage, I think.

0.40.01 added pulping, so no, not immune at all.

If you raise the IMPACT_YIELD and IMPACT_FRACTURE of the material, it should be more resistant to blunt damage, while still being easily cut.

I would just like to make it very clear that I highly anticipate using this mod myself.

Reference the username.

Hope it works well! :D

I have some ideas but maybe you've already tried them. Could you post the creature?

If not, the [NO_THOUGHT_CENTER_FOR_MOVEMENT] token might help with the nucleus (brain?) bruising, if you haven't tried that already.

I gave it another shot and I upped the impact resistance waaay up... But I don't really have the intended effect.

A war-hammer to the head should be able to damage the nucleus, but it shouldn't really damage the skin or the goo in between. Instead, I'm getting attacks that glance away or bruise the skin, while the nucleus is completely unharmed.

Try lowering IMPACT_YIELD to something more normal, while keeping IMPACT_FRACTURE high.  IMPACT_YIELD is how much power it takes to bend it, IMPACT_FRACTURE is how much it takes to break it.  More or less.

It's behaving more or less how I want it; nothing is being smashed open but it's still possible to lethally damage the eye. However, I'm still getting bruises on the skin...

EDIT: I think this is as good as they're going to get for now
