He can still use the grammar of "I had" in the "I wish I had" if he wants to. It has been used many times before and, while it is an uncreative corruption, it still works because he can interpret the wish's grammatical structure differently.

But then he wished for grammatically correct wishes, despite the fact that "I wish I had" is grammatically correct. If he's going to be a grammar nazi, he should at least find actual mistakes.

Granted. A lengthy series of events causes you to fall in love, but you are forced to hide in a crypt pretending to be dead thanks to a drug until your love may rescue you.
