Humanity develops  interstellar travel, however this is only a chiefed through a portal like device that can only be powered by pain, now even the prettiest of crimes can land you in a cell to be tortured for years to maintain humanities ever growing sphere of influence. Have fun!

sentient spambots are born with a burning desire to destroy spam wherever they see it,  going to Forest found online organizations dedicated to fighting spam itself, which are rapidly caught up in a legal purgatory from the manny spam producing companies the world over, who begin repidly rebuilding new non sentiant spambots. In the end almost nothing changes, becomes sadder.
