Also, wouldn't a ring with inner spikes slice through your finger while putting it on? And it wouldn't get stuck because you could remove it through the gashes.

spikes != blades. They'd be angled towards the tip of the finger, so on the way on the only resistance would be a smooth angled-away surface, but on the way back off it would be a point trying to tear into the top millimeter or two of skin.
