Granted. While browsing around over at TV Tropes for inspiration (which is actually a good idea) you get stuck reading about how to write instead of writing the real deal.

I wish the human brain needed less sleep to get through the day.

Granted. A scientists uses this time to come up with a cheap, easy-to-create doomsday device, a year before a stay-up-late scientist would have created the defense against it. The world is destroyed not soon after, felled by common terrorist attacks with masssive casualties finally leading to WWIII. Humanity is extinguished

I wish my summer chemistry assignment was completed and gets me a good grade.

You successfully made good (weapons) grade plutonium for your assignment. That wasn't what you were supposed to do for your assignment though, and you die of radiation poisoning.
