Bringing back a corpse hours old to functional life would be hard also. Since you would need to fix all the internal wounds. And since by that point it would be bloating due to mass cell death, you would need to fix all the cells. And then animate all the organs. And then bring everything else online.

That's the kind of stuff an arch cleric of a healing god probably could pull. Absury high level healing magic. It's easier to just preserve and animate the remainder of the muscles or just magically animate the bones.

This necro works through a virus that basicaly preserves the infected bits till it gets the nervous system online or direct raising, remember he's 1 of 50 patrons of a god of animation? And some other sphere

A bacteria would make more sense. Viruses require intact cells, by definition, it wouldn't work.

Eating dead cells, replacing them functionally. Targets nervous system.

We don't remember. We were never told the god's sphere(s).

"What are your spheres?"

And ya know
Made by a god
Maybe have it as bacteria made by a god? It would make more sense at least.

Ya know what this is set in an Ancient Greek setting, it's just an old guy walking around with raised bodies that are controled by him.

He responds,"I am a god of animation and pestilence".

Let's just say he does his magic stuff with magic. No need to rationalise and explain it, just roll with it.

(Update now? We've chosen what we're going to do.)

... Fine
And can you stop pushing for updates? I'll get to it when I get to it. My life doesn't revolve around updating games.
I'll have an update within an hour or two

No it's ok, sorry if that was a bit of an over reaction, just really busy today..

Military: the other bits of the Island are explored, the other side has an abandoned town, there are a few skeletons laying about and it's a small town with a falling apart pier on the ocean side of town. Inbetween your town and the other is a central mountain with forested and cave filled hills and a few plains laying about. The scouts find a few small tribes of men living in some of the areas.
Government: The (animancer? Is that better?) agrees to teach and is excited to study at the academy.
People: The idol is almost finished and it's design is being made by the local artist

Military: Send an expeditionary force to explore the abandoned town and see why it was abandoned and what created those skeletons. Begin exploration of the caves with earth mages and cartographers. Send magic-capable diplomats under light military escort to make contact with the tribes. If necessary, the diplomats can show them magic to impress the tribes.
Government: (If the mage can use non-corpses to do his bidding then yes. If he can only work with corpses then he's a necromancer.)

How's our dock doing?

Military:Ask the necro about the town. Oh an keep training magic. All soldiers must be at least somewhat magic proof.
Government: Encourage people to innovate more with contest that gives the winner (1 guy/girl. No second place prize here) every month. Winner can choose to have some extra coin to help him make stuff or learn from our necro friend.
People: Finish idol and if done well celebrate the artist by throwing a festival in his honor.

Notice my favorite word:INNOVATE!!
