LCS Leader's Heart Stat
« on: February 07, 2015, 09:07:45 am »

Hey guys, so I've started playing Liberal Crime Squad a few days ago and I think I'm doing really well, got a fully upgraded safehouse, sleeper judges and lawyers, about 20 recruits etc etc.

One thing I can't figure out though, is how do I increase the Leader's Heart stat? He's taken some hits on it from accidentally killing hostages... Any advice?

You generally cannot alter attributes (although increasing your level by gaining juice will increase all of your attributes).

LCS is a roguelike, which means that occasional permanent effects can be, well, permanent and unforgiving. It's just a lot more forgiving than most roguelikes because you can replace a dead character.

If your leader's Heart is too low to be of use, then you should consider revising your strategy of what you want to do with him?

That isn't a requirement for roguelike, lets get that out here so we don't start seeing "Lets have a chance cars have bombs in it that blow you up if you try to steal them" in the suggestion pile.

But yeah basically taking heart hits is irreversible... but honestly low heart, to me at least, isn't a negative... it just limits what he can do. What are you trying to do with your leader?

Also most people would have you start with the "perfect start ups"... I wonder if I should look at the stat gains and adjust them so all the starting load outs are equally advantageous.

In case you want data on balancing, my start is
CBEDDCAACD (I mix up question 9 sometimes)

That nets me:
9 Heart
8 Intelligence
1 Wisdom
10 Health
10 Agility
5 Strength
6 Charisma

And yeah. Dealing with hostages is pretty serious stuff (Seriously beneficial too). So the dangers associated with it should be severe.

The only disadvantage Enlightened have is being unable to Persuasion-recruit, and they are still able to Seduce or Enlighten, so yeah, pretty big bonus.

The founder isn't that important, but he works as the contact point for the rest, so you probably should put him on the back-burner.

I typically don't bother with seducing, since I'd have to have my main character sleep around to get it to be any good.

I use a combination of solicit donations and chatting up any moderate-liberal i can find to increase my persuasion early.  You can have 3 meetings going on at any one time.  I also raid apartment buildings a LOT early.

Unlock and open every door without moving in the private area (this shows you which apartments have the easy loot and gets your Security up)
Chat up people until you have 3 meetings set up.  The higher difficulty the better, but not too high you're spending more than 3 minutes on this step with the wait method (move, press s, guaranteed encounter)
Now the theft and stealth training.  Steal as much as you can and get to the floor level of the apartment, get close to the entrance, and use wait-move to always get encounters (This trains sneak and disguise).  The lower your relevant stats the closer to the door you want to be.  Once you get to 4 stealth you can afford to be almost a floor away from the exit as long as conservatives are not alarmed.

I have no use for heart.

It's all about how you prefer to play, really.

Second sentence kinda salvages the first; conversely, I've never been able to justify/RP having my recruits sleep around/prostitute if my leader isn't doing (or at least honestly attempting to do) the same.  Sexual revolution, like all others, is led from the front, dammit!  ;-)

All great points made by everyone here. Slightly unrelated, but if I remember right can't you reliably have 5 or 6 meetings going on at once and attending them all?

You can have six meetings and one date without missing anything. Any more and you risk missing meetings.

Yeah I have quite good recruits in a pyramid scheme, leader with 9 recruits, each of them have 5 each, they have 3 etc. etc.
I have heavy ceramic armour on most of my enforcers, so that's good.

To be honest I like having Leader seduce people, take important Conservatives hostage and deal with them personally. That sort of stuff, so yeah, just wanted to know how to increase Heart, cos I thought it'd make it easier to convince hostages to switch to the Liberal agenda

That sounds like a very interesting concept Artinnio... But alas no that isn't how it works.

Which is funny because the interrogation allows you to play "Good Cop, Bad Cop" with yourself... but nothing like that :P

Interrogation is basically having 10+ mooks beat the utter crap wisdom out of a guy, then waltz in with your sociopath leader wearing a bondage suit and comfort the automaton with chocolates until they have seen the true light of liberalism.

Oh... I've been having him beat the wisdom out of them, then using his seduction skill to make them "cling to him as their only friend" and lead them to enlightenment, but sometimes it gets out of hand...

EDIT: Someone said something about cheating, how? I know how to add armour and weapons to the game, but not how to change stats...

It's possible to hex-edit the stats of characters in the save file (character sheets are stored in HTML format).

As I said, though, it's really not needed. You can always recruit liberal psychologists, etc.

As a quasi-developer, I would modify the code, though - but probably not use it. There are cheat codes I put into the Terra Vitae mod, but they're really there for (1) debugging purposes and (2) so that players can set up scenarios to their liking.
