Beard
« on: February 06, 2015, 10:26:49 pm »

I'm 16 years old in high school, a sophomore.  I was one of the first to develop a deep voice and grow facial hair, and even now, I have a lot of facial hair.  I am of eastern European descent, and all the men in my family before me had the same thing.  I enjoy having a full beard, however, at my age, it makes me seem a lot older than I am.  I'm short, 5'5, so that's good and bad.  People tell me to shave the mustache, so I tried that today and I don't like it, but everyone else seems to.  Should I suck it up and keep it that way, or just go back to before?  I am told I look very clean and a lot nicer now.

This thread is bad for me.....

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors beard"

Anyway, you would keep it the way it is. At least, I would...

This made me laugh so hard.
Yes keep it!
Grow it dwarven and plait it.

If there are school rules about being clean shaven then you should just shave.
I got kicked out of school for not cutting my hair, made a big deal about it being sexist that femles can have long hair but males cant.

If you really do not like the new look, then grow your mustache back. It's your face and your choice, not anyone else's.

I prefer the old look, but literally everyone likes it without the mustache.  I could attempt to get used to it, and while I know I care about my opinion more than others, it is literally preferred by everyone else.

It's your face. And you're 16, isn't rebelling what teens are supposed to do? :P

You might want to read into beard/moustache maintenance if you do end up keeping it. As with any excessive body hair, it'll look much better if you actually take care of it. People not liking it might be because it's new and different, or because you don't take care of it and it looks horrid as a result.

I know a guy that has had lots of facial hair ever since he went into puberty. He decided to just let it grow, put hairspray on it to stiffen it like a reverse mohawk and painted it green. It looked awesome in a punk kind of way.

You may consider getting a trimmer and keeping at a perpetual 5-o'clock shadow. Depending on your facial structure it may strike a nice balance between beard and baby face.

I find beards are itchy. I've had beards and moustaches and even when I did for months, the day I shaved it was like "finally, no more ITCHING!".

So, on appearances, I can't really give much advice. It works for some, doesn't for some. I'm pretty sure some beard styles would look awesome on me. But to me, an itch-free life trumps looks.

If a LOT of girls are telling you they really hate it, you might want to think about it - a different shaping at least.  If it's  other guys, who cares? :D

If your going to trim a beard or any real growth then buy a cheap DE razor, there so much better than cartages, it untrue.

There are good sides to looking older than 16, like not getting asked for id all the time.

I'm 25 and I have no beard :v, tons of people who come to my office think I'm a 17 year old employee, so please take care of your beard in our honour.

Wear the beard with pride young bearded one. I'm 18 and when I go full beard people often tell me I look 25, with great age comes great beard, but with great beard comes great swag.
